I think the beast motif in the Amygdala fight makes a lot of sense and does a lot lore wise to connect the great ones and beasts. The amygdala is a part of the brain responsible for memory, but also emotion, especially fear and aggression. It makes sense that the amygdala in a person's brain might be somewhat responsible for triggering beast transformation. The Amygdala is also an aggressive boss, and even the ripping off of the arms suggests that it's afraid or desperate while fighting the hunter (like how an animal might chew off it's own leg to escape a trap). This all suggests that Amygdala, and perhaps the great ones, are far more bestial than they like to pretend, or rather how humans like to pretend they are. We see more blurring between the lines in Ludwig's fight when he regains some of his humanity. I think the point of Amygdala's theme is that it forces us to question what exactly the difference is between being a beast and being a great one, and it's hard to come up with a definitive answer. Great ones, beasts, and even humans, they're all just monsters and ultimately whatever their goals are are meaningless when they come face to face with the hunter's axe.

This comparison and finding was given by the video series "The Bloodborne medical metaphor" which delves into the motives of bosses, characters, blood lore, weapons and more of the entire game. They resemble the development of chirurgic anatomistic disection and narcotic history in victorian Edinburgh. Definetly worth a watch!

About Paarl; not only is it specifically named, one of the other 2 darkbeast-adjacent beasts you encounter in the game is the beggar who is fully conversational and tries to live among people to hunt them. With the clue in the solemn music, it forms a pretty solid case that Darkbeasts are fully conscious and sapient beyond normal beasts.

We also know Paarl was experimented upon by Hunters, and the beggar (accurately) claims that hunters are themselves the problem.

This comment has two phases
I.- A Bloodborne opera would be earth-shattering.
II.- I believe our current understanding and characterization of "genius" is outdated and misused: We tend to dish out "genius" status to random dudes in popular fields, like technology or the economy (misused), while at the same time, we decry the absence of genius in the arts and music. "There are no more geniuses" is a catchphrase, rooted in the comparison to popular icons like Mozart and Beethoven (outdated). Wouldn't you agree that indeed we are surrounded by geniuses, just that not 'all of them' make operas or symphonies in the classical sense. Any of the Bloodborne composers could create something akin to Rachmaninoff, or Bach. And only then would we consider them geniuses! What I mean is, we have  a lack of appreciation to videogame creators overall, especially when it comes to music and sound. That's why I consider channels like yours so important. Some games carry veritable works of art when it comes to the score, and by dissecting and "professionally" discussing it we are making new connections to a modern definition of that which constitutes Greatness. (as to say, even in videogames can you find true, iconic artists that in any other field would be considered transcendental "geniuses") I hope I've expressed my thoughts in an understandable way, my brain is a maze that I navigate with music.

Bloodborne was easily my favorite and most played game for the longest time. Some of the ambient stuff like Cleric Beast screaming is so integral part of the soundscape that it almost feels part of the music itself.

My take on the piano in the Micolash fight is that it evokes feelings of running after something, but with varying success, as the notes kind of shift even as they keep rising. While the beast motif gives the impression of YOU being the one being chased, here it has you being the one doing the chasing after some dude who just won't stay still.

I’m closing in on my Bloodborne platinum, and the music makes the journey so memorable. Thanks for such a great breakdown on this masterpiece 🎉
