Senator Elissa Slotkin and Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed are joining forces to convince Michigan voters that their differences make them stronger. They participated in their first joint town hall event Saturday, speaking to voters in the bellwether district of Macomb County about topics ranging from their differing faiths to how they plan to lead in the Senate during President Donald Trump's administration. The pair sat down with MS NOW reporter Kevin Frey for an exclusive interview to discuss their vision for Michigan. Frey joins Morning Joe to break it all down.

A study of over 9,000 Americans found Trump supporters scored higher on psychopathy, narcissism and manipulativeness. They also reported less concern for others’ suffering and more enjoyment of it. Even worse: they could read other people’s emotions just fine. They just seemed to care less. A political movement that celebrates the cruelty of ICE and the IDF? Who would have guessed?

I like seeing Slotkin back El-Sayed. As Slotkin said "a Jewish woman and a Muslim man" getting along. It's a job, we can get along regardless of one's background. All the background noise by the opposition is a wearying distraction.

When I elected to vote for Elissa starting with the primary, I wasn't voting for a Jewish candidate -- I voted for a highly qualified and accomplished candidate. That's why El-Sayed has my vote locked. The Republican running against Abdul hasn't changed . . . TACO is on the ballot and must get vetoed for the prodemocracy BLUE side of the ballot for every seat!

There are many reasons that this teaming is a good idea. One reason it is good for El-Sayed is to counter the GOP accusations that he is some kind of puppet for Hassan Piker. Not slamming Piker here, but one of the many attempts to demonize El-Sayed is to tie him to everything Piker has ever said. And Slotkin and Piker have exchanged some fairly heated comments on each other. I don't think Slotkin would be out helping El-Sayed if she didn't think he was his own man.

I’ve now voted twice for Dr. A. Once in the primary and again when I turned in my absentee ballot last week. I’ve been listening to his town halls, including the one in question, and I have to say that he is perhaps the most articulate candidate that I’ve heard since Obama.

I have high hopes for Michigan, but I know there’s no guarantees. It’s one thing for us to narrowly elect a white Jewish woman, but I know it’s so much bigger left for many people to vote for a Muslim. Sadly, that is.

Almost everyone is sick of paying for Trump's war, Trump's vanity projects, Trump's public disservice ads and Trump's undying loyalty to oligarchs and tech billionaires. Working class people want a change and it will show in the midterms.
