What can you make from just 36 inches of Amazon packing paper?

Apparently… 89 pieces of ephemera! 🤯😂

Today we're heading back into the Pixie Printz Research Wing with a challenge: I started with just 36 inches of that brown packing paper that comes stuffed inside Amazon packages and decided to see just how far I could make it go.

Instead of throwing it away, we're cutting, stamping, layering and transforming it into a huge collection of vintage and scientific-inspired ephemera for journals, folios, pockets, specimen files and future Research Wing projects.

By the time I finished, those 36 inches of packing paper had become 89 individual pieces!

✂️ WHAT WE’RE MAKING

In this video you'll see that simple packing paper transformed into all kinds of useful ephemera, including:

✨ Tags and labels
✨ Tickets and small embellishments
✨ Stamped masterboard pieces
✨ Layered pieces and dangles
✨ Specimen-style elements
✨ Pockets and sleeves
✨ Tiny scraps turned into usable embellishments

The goal isn't to make every piece exactly like mine. It's to see just how much we can create from something most of us would normally throw away.

this is truly one of the BEST ephemera tutorials i have ever seen. i saw soooo many ideas that i'm going to make from watching this video. thanks for this!! some of these i have done before - snippet roll, collage master sheet, tags/belly bands, inchies (and twinchies). some i haven't tried, but will - the memory dex tags, the dangles, the layered playing card tags, the triangle flips, and the paper clip banners. i have loads of that kraft packing paper - i just fold it up and save it and now i have lots of things i can make with it. this can easily become a template for making ephemera in any theme and that's what i'm going to use this as. yes, there are other things i can add to it, but i think this is a great template to use to make sure we have enough items to decorate a journal of any type with - for example, if i'm making an alice in wonderland journal - i can use this video to create all these pieces using alice themed papers to decorate my journal with! and i AM making an alice journal one day - so this is awesome!!!!

I now have neighbors and their relatives saving packaging, paper bags, old writing paper, wrapping paper, and a myriad of other 'trash' for my junk journal making. I use all that for pages in my signatures, and the smaller pieces are used for embellishments. I also use those big pieces of paper to abstractly paint on, and then use that for wrapping gifts. Nothing goes to the landfill!

Excellent work! These rolls of paper also work well as compost, homade wrapping paper, tablecloth with crayons for the kids table, bouquet wrapping, etc.

This helps me SOOO MUCH!! I’ve been saving sooo much awesome paper packing from ALL my orders…Amazon, Chewy, eBay, book stores and more! I’ve been amassing it for the better part of a YEAR! I even got 2 huge potato bags from Walmart when I asked the produce stocker what they did with them (throw them out!) and I wiped the inside of it, after I cut it open flat, and it’s much heavier/stiffer than the softer packaging paper so I can use that to beef up softer journal covers, tags and cards or whatever. These ephemeral pieces are so clever and awesome! And I’m all about the outdoor, grunge, masculine nature themes. Thank you❣️❣️ Now I can start MAKING cool things! I will save the paper potato sacks but wanted to give that idea to you and your viewers to check out when you go to the grocery stores!! Just ask the produce guys if they have any potato sacks since they come in bulk they’re usually in the thick paper sacks. Thanks again! Great stash growers ❣️❣️
