In this UAD Tones & Techniques video, UA's Ben Lindell and guitarist Tyler Larson from Music is Win show you how to reamp guitar sounds using an Apollo x4 interface, OX Amp Top Box, and UAD plug-ins.

First, Lindell breaks down what reamping is, and how it offers you the ultimate amount of after-the-fact tweaking, allowing you to audition different cabs, amps, effects, and more to your dry guitar signal.

Next, a diagram shows you the signal routing for reamping, as well as how you set Apollo's Console app and cue outputs.

Finally, watch as Lindell and Larson demonstrate a variety of tones using UAD plug-ins, including stompbox effects like UAD RAW to studio classics like the MXR Flanger/Doubler, Galaxy Tape Echo, KORG SDD-3000 Delay, Eventide H 910, Moog Multimode Filter Collection and more.

I really appreciate the OX specific content. I feel like UA really could support their OX user base much better with a series of videos similar to this one that address set up, line levels, headroom, reamping, etc. When I compare the amount of content UA has put out for a free product like Luna compared to what they have put out to support a $1k+ device like OX, it seems that OX users got left out or overlooked. Personally, I really struggle with where to set levels starting at my Twin interface, then the OX app, and then Console. I don't really understand how it should be set correctly to ensure a good recording that can then be mixed well. Please consider creating more content like this specific to the guitar community that you are actively trying to embrace with OX and the new pedals.

Re amping is an addiction. It really is. You can re amp almost anything;there are also some cool applications outside of just guitar.

Definitely not overkill! It's sooo much better to have the freedom to tweak after the fact. I usually double track all my guitars, instead of capturing a DI and processed signal at the same time. Thanks for the vid, I've seen so many where people make "re-amping" sound way more complicated than it is.

I've had an Ox for a few months, and glad I came across this very cool demonstration. Well done. Question - what was the Amp/Mic setting you used in your Ox for this? I don't believe this was called out. And just confirming that there isn't really a "bypass" in the Ox and you're def running thru a cabinet combo.

Couldn't help but notice the Sample Rate on that Console session Ben was running was at 48 kHz. Seeing how the OX is capped at 44.1 kHz, what was really happening there? Was the Apollo doing SRC real time? Just curious about how that would be, if I were to buy an OX...

The OX is great but it's a shame it only handles 44k on the digital output.

how come he doesn't use a pre amp in the unison section? I have an apollo x6 and when i plug my guitar into my front Hi z input and try to use a pre amp like the neve, it stays locked on the mic input and won't let me switch it to line

This reamp setup is really intriguing. Have a question though. As you stressed the “realtime” experience, I wonder how much latency you get since I can see quite a lot of conversions analog/digital and vice versa...

who was pulling focus for this video? On the wide shot the focus was on the background wall, and on the close up it was on the Apollo.. both dudes are blurry. Just a thought for someone to check focus before and while you film.

What is the advantage going through the interface, send it to the amp and back, instead of going straight in a D.I. Box into the Interface and the "throught" into the amp and into the interface?

Could you do this with vocals? Record a dry vocal but at the same time record another take with a console chain?

It looks like the OX is going into the APOLLO 3-4 using XLR’s cables into the combo jack inputs. And console appears to be on “line in” for the OX in. I thought Apollo’s make you use a TRS 1/4” in order to use “line in”.
Can someone explain how they got it to work? Even the manual says “When connecting via XLR you will always need to set the corresponding Apollo input to "MIC". “. Thnx

Perfect! I have an x4 and OX. Just need a reamp box. Been trying to figure out how to best pull this off at home.

What reamp box did you guys use? I saw Little Labs makes one that looks cool. Just got the plugins, so might give them a try.
