My great grandmother’s name until she married was Eva Lancaster… I was happily surprised to hear you say what the word “caster” means during Roman times in England!! I’ll never forget this now and every time I see or hear of a town with “caster” in it, I’ll know!! I love learning! Thank you!

Excellent post, I am loving this series, Thank you. I’m am never conflicted when bones of those departed are dug up and placed in boxes/bags. They shouldn’t be left to RIP.

Fascinating information well presented, so much to reflect on. Cult of Mithras very interesting.

Something I really like about English documentaries like this is when asked questions the experts generally answer with words like, possibly, probably and phrases like we think. Too many similar documentaries from the USA seem to state hyposises as absolute fact

How do we take roads for granted?

You say it’s a strange feeling to be at the misrath but as stated seconds before it was moved from its original site to where you stood ,in truth, you are simply looking at artifacts and not a place where Romans worshiped. A real shame it was moved

Wasn't Mithras a Persian import to Rome?

Gender fluidity was not common in those days.
Roman citizens could not be galli priests, only foreigners.
And people seem to have been a bit put off by it even then.
It is also important to remind oneself that in the cultures
where there are "ladyboys" like in Thailand, or bacha bazi in Afghanistan,
these are not well seen and often subjected to various kinds of abuse.

Too many shots of two people in semi profile nattering and waving their arms around. Not enough views of artefacts, reconstructions, plans, 'how-they-did-it' explanations, etc. Could have been a radio show. Sorry.

If you want to be humbled, just look at things like the sword you showed us, 70 AD. Or other things from that long ago, or like my impression when I toured the Egyptian Museum in Cairo in 1999. Those things were much older than even these… and by being humbled, I mean, modern man always thinks we do things better, we are better, blah blah blah… and yet we don’t make things. We have machines that do. What’s in Cairo and what’s being discovered in the UK or pretty much anywhere, that old, was literally made by hand… modern man is nothing but lazy compared to those times.

More narrative than facts.

I guess I’m pagan as I don’t follow any religion… for many reasons but sum it up as them being appalling. I care more for Mother Nature, Mother Earth. Much more than humans which seem to be hellbent on destroying her.
