When to shoot in basketball is nuanced. So my goal is to make it easier for you. If you’re working hard on your skills everyday and have goals of playing at the next level, then you should follow the OPEN rule. And no, the rule is not that you should only shoot when you're open.
In fact, I believe if you only shoot when you’re open, you’re doing yourself a massive disservice. So let’s break down what the rule is and how you can apply it to your own games.
