Wow super impressive transformation on the west side !! It does have its own unique city vibe. It’s so cool to have your personal experience of watching it get created , shared with us for this tour for context of truly how much it’s changed. I get the same feelings when I go through old neighborhoods that I lived in and studied too. It must be something about those early adult years that we attach to the places..I get emotional still after so many years passing by my college 🙏
Your life is definitely baked in to the fabric of New York City 🙌very cool.
Thanks for special walk tonight ! And that cleansing rain at the end for dramatic effect ❣️
I discovered your channel back around Christmas time, looking at all the beautiful lights. As an East Tennessee teenage girl growing up in the late 80's, I dreamed of living in New York some day. Now as a 50-something middle-age woman ... still living in Tennessee ... I guess it's not going to happen! LOL I love your videos, seeing all the different areas of NY. Love the beautiful architecture ... old and new. I especially enjoyed the High Line video!! Maybe some day, I'll make it there for a visit. Until then, thanks for all the walking tours and information!! Love them rain or shine! 😊
Brilliant to hear all your stories & memories - thanks for braving the elements. And as you mention 24hr diners I remember when I took my first solo trip to NYC I'd read about Scottys Diner on Lexington Ave. My flight got in from Ireland around 11pm. I dropped my bags at the hotel and went to Scottys. I sat up at the counter and ordered a black coffee (like they do in the movies 😂) I ate an omelette, pancakes, waffles and talked until 6am to Pete the server and all the shiny characters who visited throughout the night - a night I'll never forget. I ate there every day of my trip. Sadly closed now so yes let's support those local gems no matter where in the world live. Thanks again 👋
Awsome history lesson and so well done with your camera work. It's amazing how similar my big little city of Pittsburgh Pa somewhat resembles lower Manhattan. I am, as you are proud of my hometown. No matter where a person may end up, the memories of your childhood can never be erased or replaced. A treasure that I'm sure each one of us growing up in our wonderful and beautiful nation can boast about. God bless America!
good stream. the new or transformed, far west side is still mostly a well kept secret. Btw, most of those waterline bldgs have huge fireplaces in the lobby to warm you up or to make a person feel cozy and secure when you come in from the outside on those cold, windy, winter days that are typical of the far, west side. wow, loved that last rainy shot of the top of the bldgs on Central Park South that you took from 60th street across the street from the Mandarin Oriental.
Hi Thomas. Can you send some of that rain to south east Michigan 😃😉. Beautiful public spaces. Question..... I know you like the more traditional prewar buildings, BUT do you like the more modern glass open interiors? Gosh that comment area is just beautiful and seeing the kiddos play is the icing on the cake. As always stay safe and thank you for THIS walking tour.
Really enjoyed this. I live in the West 60s, but haven't gotten down this way since I worked here. The hotel you mentioned used to contain the original offices of PBS Ch13 WNET (where I worked). It was a dump, as was the rest of the hotel. Now they have modern offices near Lincoln Center. I too often ate at Flame, lunches with co-workers. Ah, memories...
Which area is left more to the old NY? The original John Jay and that church are so much prettier to me than the modern buildings although the landscaping is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your college memories with us, that was a real pleasure to get to know something so personal about you! BUT, 😂whistling “Singing in the rain” was an unexpected treat for us!
my grandfather was born and raised on the westside. he said there was a westside accent and an eastside accent. unfortunately, the real NYC accent is almost extinct. I agree. your school does look like a federal penitentiary.
