Caller ADMITS No Way to Tell Design from NATURAL?! | Matt Dillahunty & Jimmy Snow

Original Episode Here: https://youtube.com/live/FvcD7fDtgMY

Jay from Kansas calls in to debate why the Christian God exists, armed with fine-tuning arguments, gap reasoning, and a Bible he definitely does not have in front of him. Matt and Jimmy dismantle every argument in sequence — from intelligent design to the supernatural to prayer promises — until Jay, mid-call, accidentally concedes that you can't tell the difference between an intelligently designed universe and one that isn't, nuking his own argument. The call ends when Matt reads Matthew 18 word-for-word and asks Jay to explain the context that makes him wrong. Jay can't.

Saying "Life can't come from non-life" (chemistry transitioning to biology) is like saying physics doesn't give rise to chemistry.

The number 1 reason why any individual believes that their religion is the true and correct view of reality, is that was the way they were brought up. No study, rationality, no investigation, no understanding. Very, very few believers in any religion ever seriously investigate any other religion, or even all the variations of their own religion. They are just indoctrinated with what they were brought up with.

I absolutely love the playing cards analogy. Many religious people can’t understand it.

I wonder if a preamble to every episode should be "Are you more concerned about truth than confort ?" And "Can you imagine a world without god ?" And drop callers that say no to any.. because that won't be a useful call..

Around the 28:30 mark, Jay says, essentially, If you take it out of context you'll misunderstand it like you are, and then when Matt asks for clarification, he says, 'Hold on, I'm reading the verses'. Bro, what? He told Matt he's taking it out of context with no idea about whether Matt was taking it out of context, and then went desperately searching for some post hoc rationalisation. Such a dishonest arse.

Well that was unsurprisingly embarrassing

Not only can creationists not entertain hypotheticals for themselves, most of them don't even understand that hypotheticals exist.

As a christian, I am determined to stay stupid... because being stupid makes me feel really good.

I think the problem for theists is that they are stuck in the distant past. I can understand how in the distant past people might have thought that there was a supernatural that controlled the universe, because they had no other explanation. The problem is that knowledge and science has progressively explained a lot of what was unknown. As a result, the supernatural of the past has shrunk further and further. The possible explanations for the supernatural have shrunk so far that they have move to the unmeasurable 'outside space and time'. Of course we are still left with the conmen, slight of hand, manipulators and ignorance.

to be fair, i didnt read the bible or torah much, just the stuff i had to for the public schools in isnotreal, but between stargate and listening to people who read it over and over, I learned my way out of religion right into atheism/agnosticism

Defining a designer is impossible since we cannot even define the universe we exist in. A designer then becomes an individually determined imaginary set of qualities and quantities. In other words, God, Everything, and Perfection—all imaginary, not a single observable example within our natural environment.

Beliefs that ignore our precise predicament in our natural environment, on our planet, in our solar system, in our galaxy, in this universe, are emotionally rooted. People who tend to be overly emotional, also tend to lack critical thinking skills because the functional connection between the prefrontal cortex (PFC)—the brain's logical control center—and the amygdala—its emotional alarm system—is marked by weak top-down inhibition and hyper-reactivity. Instead of a collaborative partnership, the emotional center dominates, reducing the capacity for reasoned analysis and reflection.
