In Hawaii (my home planet), we have the 2nd highest drowning rate in the US next to Alaska. The only real study done here was on 2nd graders. 98% of the surveyed said they would not survive if tossed into the ocean. So, we da same here, Po! I live in Boracay, I see it everyday, The Filipino's going to the beach just to take their pictures but they never enter the water. Maybe get their feet wet, at the most, but that about it! LOL

I could write a book esp on my first trip at age 21 so many things happened from a mate who died on the trip aged 40, I was in a bar who a US journalist that got shot up, I then met the worlds top 4 most wanted man who I talked family history with who was an English Lord & whose daughter got murdered for being a drug dealer 5 to 10 yrs ago, his other daughter is an actress,

I was then the ONLY guy who got out into out suburbs of Manila & saw the poverty 😢 but the happiest people I’d ever had the privilege of meeting 😊

A girl on our boat was thrown into Manila bay & the guys luckily & quickly realised she couldn’t swim and was rescued. Our boat run out of fuel which we later found out always happens but then it broke down so a three hr trip turned into a 12 hr trip

A mate got his luggage stolen

We had to get out of a cab coz the driver went crazy like driving on footpaths

So much more happened like our plane nearly crashing after a mate of mine predicting it would crash hours earlier - it made national news here in Australia

And so much more

I think corruption made the biggest impact. I bribed palace guards of Aquino & walked around Palace grounds for 20 mins but lost track of time & they escorted me with guns off premises

I was offered police badge at airport which despite being told that it could happen but don’t accept as I’d be jailed & have to pay double the price or more to get out. I was still shocked an officer offered me to buy his badge which I refused

I love the Philippines although I was only there for two weeks. I've learned much more about it since. I knew quite a bit before I came because of its close relationship to the US and I knew about it's role in WWII.

I actually have a cousin living somewhere in Cebu. He's been there for a while now.

One of the filipino habits that I remember the most when I visited was during meals.Eating with your hands,not using fork,or spoon,or knife.Its a culture.rather unique.I kinda like it,accually.

I love karaoke but I’m not very good but I still like to do it though, but if I sing in the shower or my kitchen I blow it up, ( in my mind)

American people have great hospitality too. Just watch the videos from when the World Cup was in America. They're all over YouTube. Foreigners would go to a restaurant and eat a ton of food. When they were ready to leave they asked for the bill. That's when they found out an American already paid their bill and left. They were also surprised that we will start a conversation with anyone anywhere. In a grocery store, on a street corner,just anywhere. You should visit some time and experience our hospitality. Also we have one of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I promise you that.

You look amazing for 55 Ma'am 😂....oh sorry I meant 45 😂...unfortunately I have no stories yet about experiences in the Philippines yet ......but one day I will ....im actually quite easy so everything makes sense to me ....but I really do like the thought of being invited to eat with a  Philippine family , making sure I am well fed...I love that ....incredible colourful site swimming with the turtle...beautiful experience.  🌴🌞🐢

The Whitening issue is widespread.....  For Your culture I am sure it has MUCH to do with The PI being colonized a few times by western countries. Of course people want to look as much like the dominant ruling people as they can.   The Cherokees in the US assimilated a GREAT deal with the European look and culture. Partially its a way not be completely crushed by the conqueror.   They dressed like us and lived in houses like us.  and spoke English very well.  Unfortunately once some rich guy decided to take what the Cherokee land had to offer they didnt get the equitable approach they thought their assimilation would get them.    Be that as it may.  This has happened in many countries White Europeans controlled by colonizing.   So its not really a surprise to me that your culture status would be tied to the color of the colonizer especially in the larger cities.

Karaoke, from what I have seen in all the videos, is simply a way of bonding and celebrating each other. Its a way of saying YOU are just as accepted by ALL of us even if you sound like a rooster while singing.  hahahahah

The eating thing was a BIG thing here especially during the depression when everyone was basically starving.....giving what little you had was a way to say you matter......and of course like all poor people they band together helping each other every single day.  With so much poverty there it makes perfect sense  that they want to GIVE you aid and food.   We in the west have kind of lost that giving feeling.   Well I know you are hungry.   get a frigging job!   I am sure many rich people in your country feels the same about half the population. Funny how the more we get, the less we try to share it.   Thank you for sharing your culture with us :)
