If the situation with Aaron Hernandez hadn't gone down the way it did, I believe the Patriots double tight end set would have changed football forever.
"Insane", "Unstoppable", "Unguardable" etc are all grossly overused, but they are completely justified for Randy Moss. His combination of skills was and remains without compare. Extreme high-end ability in pretty much every possible area. He is, frankly, the most talented player at any position to ever play the game of football and easily yore most effective scoring weapon. Even a bit past his prime, pairing him with Brady was a true joke. Moss caught 23 TD while sitting out numerous 2nd halves, had a few called back for phantom OPI (Dallas, Philly games) that was more of a mercy call from officials. Hell, Randy even defeated the Giants Hail Mary coverage at the very end of the Super Bowl, the ball was just a tad late...the amount of coverage Moss received in the playoffs rivaled the OJ Simpson trial.
I was at near every home game this season. I remember midway through the season when the excited cheers half transformed into laughter with Brady to Moss because it felt so inevitable. The defense was throwing everything and it didn't matter. Moss was the big picture catalyst here. He could take a nap on the field and safeties would still have been way off the LOS. It opened everything up for Welker and Faulk. If the D slipped and left Moss alone, Brady instantly ignored everyone else and forced the ball to Moss. On the occasion that they would force it to him in double/triple coverage just to remind the defense they had forgotten about him, Moss frequently won those, too.
4:20 "They've got Randy Moss in the slot on this one" #DefenseIsCookedAlready✌️The 07 Pats with Brady, Welker, and Moss were a cheat code 🤷♂️ It was GLORIOUS 🙌
I totally forgot there used to be a ref behind the middle LB. It seems insane nowadays, and annoying for a QB trying to throw in the middle of the field.
The Giants (against this team) and this year’s Eagles showed that the counter to this (or any high powered offense) is the ability to get pressure on the QB when only rushing 4. Games are won in the trenches.
Brady could get rid of the ball so quickly how fast he could process plays and know how to take full advantage of what the defense would give him is so criminally underrated as a skill set.
Simply the best channel to bring the complexity - hence the beauty - of the game to understandable, and, more importantly, immensely enjoyable level to the layman. Thank you for your great work.
I'm not a Patriots fan, but the '07 Patriots are one of my favorite teams of all time. I loved the Moss redemption after wasting away on the Raiders, and the Pats were so futuristic that year.
