Sheikh Hussein Yee is a Malaysian Chinese who transitioned from Buddhism to Christianity and then to Islam.
He served in a Buddhist temple. Then he served in a church. And when he became Muslim, he decided to live in a mosque—and he lived there for four years.
But his path to Islam was not easy.
He says that while living among Muslims, almost no one spoke to him about Islam. When he wanted to read the Quran, he was not even allowed to touch it. Some called it "unclean." After converting to Islam, he faced misunderstanding, suspicion, and even being kicked out of mosques.
But he did not abandon Islam.
On the contrary, all of this made him stronger.
In this podcast, Hussein Yii talks about how many Muslims have failed to properly convey the beauty of Islam to others. He reminds us that Islam is perfect, but the problem is how we present it.
One of the most powerful messages in the episode:
if we believe that Muslim lessons, Friday sermons, and reminders within the community are dawah, then true dawah is dead. Because true dawah is bringing Islam to those who don't yet know it.
In this episode, you will learn:
• How Husayn Yi came to Islam;
• Why he was first a Buddhist, then a Christian;
• Why the story of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) touched his heart;
• Why Muslims didn't talk to him about Islam;
• How he lived in a mosque for four years;
• Why some Muslims were suspicious of him;
• Why he never missed a prayer after embracing Islam;
• What true dawah is;
• Why Muslims should talk to neighbors, family, and non-Muslims;
• Why Islam cannot be reduced to just "halal and haram";
• How to show mercy, wisdom, and respect in da'wah;
• Why new converts need support, not condemnation.
This video is not an accusation.
It's a reminder.
Islam is beautiful.
But how do we show it to people?
Are we speaking to those seeking the truth?
Do we explain Islam beautifully, clearly, and with compassion?
Are we helping new converts?
Or are we pushing people away with our rude attitude?
Hussein Yii reminds us: our responsibility is to convey the message clearly. And guidance comes only from Allah.
May Allah make us people of dawah, wisdom, mercy, and sincerity. May He strengthen our prayer, our iman, and our mission.
