The next time someone posts on the NAWCC message board and asks if full disassembly is really required to service a clock, I'm going to point them to this video. As usual, the attention to detail… every detail… Is exemplary. For the time it took to watch this video, there was order and sense in the world. Great job, as usual!

I wouldn't call it a gimmick as much as a wonderful piece of art and human workmanship.

A boring rainy cold day just turned into one of amazement and wonder, thank you. You are a crazy skilled guy but the guy that made this is way crazier. That case is beautiful.

In high school a teacher I was friends with built a Congreve clock.  From the same plans as that one I'd say as the ball table and gear train look identical.  He had quite a time getting the fusee right.  We cast several blanks to get a good casting with the right color of bronze and without any imperfections.  So he had a few dud castings to practice the machining on before committing to the good casting.  It's an interesting design, not very practical though as you say.  I learned a lot from that fellow, I'm in my 60's now and he retired the year I graduated from high school, so he's been gone for many years now.  I still miss him.  I hope his family still has his clock and is keeping it in good condition.

In Chambers Street Museum, Edinburgh, there was one similar clock which I loved to look at as a kid. Mother always new where to find me!

That’s the clock from, Back to the Future! Cool model

Back in the 70's I was stationed in Hong Kong and saw a magnificent Congreve clock. The track was a milled brass plate rather than the skeleton type depicted here. There was a cylinder above each of the individual tracks that displayed the seconds. Inside was a cylinder which rotated each time the track moved. I still regret not buying it.

Art is, at times, more appreciative of the creativity of man than "science". On a side note, the ball "hops" the point of the tine (?) in the turns in its course. As a timepiece, this must generate a lot of curiosity among children, and older kids like me ;)

This was a really fun repair to watch. As you said, it is easy to see why the timekeeping won't be very accurate.
