great job done!…I’m retired now but used to do the same type of work your doing, pricing I know from experience can be difficult and some customers (when first meeting them) wanted a cheaper quote, others were very happy, you can’t please everyone of course, but when the difficult customers saw the final finish “most” were happy with my pricing…keep up the good work, if possible try and get a couple of small factory / business grass cutting and weed killing contracts…I went looking for businesses that had badly maintained grounds, and put my case to them that tidy grounds, well maintained grass ect would reflect well on the company…I managed to get 2 contracts, an electronics factory in Dalgety Bay Fife and Rolls Royce Marine along the road on the same industrial estate, after a few visits I bought myself a small sit and ride lawn mower…I thoroughly enjoyed doing garden maintenance work back then, satisfying and rewarding in the same measure…all the best with your business…Brian.

I'm other side of pennines in Barnsley...my hourly rate is £30 but I price hedge cutting per job and would have been £70 + waste on this. If you happy and customer happy then that's all that matters. Cheers

In my humble opinion, £40 is exactly right for what you did, and you do it the same way I do. It is what I would charge, even though I know it is quite cheap, but happy, regular customers is what it has always been about for me, plus they always feed and water me extremely well. The social side of my business takes far longer than the actual job, but they are happy, and so am I!

As others are saying £50 for the job without removal, couple of hours work at a fairly easy pace. I’d have taken it back a bit harder myself, those leylandii will creep forward over the years and then can’t be cut back past the green.

Yes a fair price but as i have 7 assorted hedges icluding  laurel and Hawthorne to cut over the year at near 87 could not afford to   pay for all these at 40 pounds  each even at 40 pounds each so will carry on hopefully atvleast until 90!!!!!

Looks like it is next doors hedge. Its the clearing up that is the bind. I use a tarp to catch the clippings where poss.

I've moved into gardening from tree surgery. The nice thing about it is knowing I have some regular work coming in every week. I still do hedges and tree's  but I can afford to charge more as I'm not so concerned about winning quotes as much

I do the same as you, sides first then top. I do 2hr stints, so I'd do the hedge, clean up using customers bin and do some other jobs to fill the 2hrs, I'd charge £25ph but get £50 total which is fair for a large...ish hegde like that. I'm in Lincolnshire, so you have to be careful what you charge. I normally charge £20ph for general gardening but only recently charge £25 for large hedge. Good video though, makes me feel better that I'm not under charging for large hedges. Subscribed, hopefully you will do so too to me.👍

Great job most people tend to cut a conifer back to much and get dye back ,I would have charged the same .if you have to pay to get rid of your waste than that’s a extra charge .you got to think of the fuel your using and maintaining machines and travel expenses.the only difference I use the pole cutter to do the whole job rather than the trimmer .we all cut differently I find using the pole cutter on the sides you can keep a eye on the straightness of the hedge when your cutting same with top I get my eye level with the blade on the pole cutter cut the top edge straight then go back and cut the rest of the top doing the edges like you which is a nice finish.keep up the good work .ps I always use henchman ladders they got telescopic legs very safe to use.

Yes, Stihl are the only one to have the rough cut hedge trimming blades

I basically do the same.. if it’s a regular maintenance job and I’m back every week or so, I think all of us do.. mostly all.. if it’s a one off hedge separately then of course you should charge more, rightly so. £40 your maintenance job is fair enough, you know them, it’s cushy etc.. but wayyyy too cheap for a one off call out for a hedge new customer etc but you know that.

I always curve the top , I prefer the look though it is a little slower. Each year you cut the hedge you can accentuate the curve a little more! £40 is probably about right for a regular client, you’re only doing one side and not having to stress about getting all the way across the top.
I have a still petrol trimmer in the rough cut so when I changed to batteries I got the fine cut. The fine cut is great and very light with the battery in a back pack and cuts beautifully but if you’ve only got one then you want the rough cut cause that will do anything.
One final point on pricing hedges, if like me you cut a lot this time of year you will find (especially as you age!) that you pick up repetitive strain injuries. Usually I suffer with tennis elbow but this year I have a rotator cuff impingement. It’s agony and I’m in constant pain. Think of that when pricing!

Little tip for you
When I was on holiday in Greece, the gardener was trimming the bushes with a bed sheet on the floor, catching the trimmings in the sheet ,you fold it up, then empty in bin.  It was a great system , anyway good video
