0:11 "Without further ado" procedes to have further ado.

I’m now wondering if the “use true name to gain power over summoned being” trope has anything to do with parents using the kid’s full name when they’re mad. I assume not but it’s funny to think about

Basic baking is very similar to chemistry. You need your ratios right, your temps correct, your methods precise to get consistent results every time. This guy sounds like an actual wizard

"She had to try every dessert and learn what everything was"

Oh, the HORROR!

Can I work for this guy? I want to be forced to eat every kind of dessert he makes too!

Full name: So this grown man, who isn't married nor has children, lives in his sister's house, and decides to order around her own grandchildren in front of their parents. Op was being nice because this child in a middle aged body needed to grow up a long time ago.

Story 3: Crème Brûlée. I do get the feeling that Ashley was the problem here. I mean, if the customer orders the Earl Grey panna cotta but doesn’t like tea… guide them to a different dessert. I am a pretty picky eater, but I keep my customization requests to things I think are reasonable. How well done I like my meat, can they leave the pickles off, etc. Not “make a brand new dish” like “reconstruct the apple tart”, especially if there is also a tarte tatin on the menu!

And “please taste every dessert on the menu so that you can do your job better” hardly seems traumatizing! In fact, I’d be really looking forward to that, assuming that we aren’t talking a place like the Cheesecake Factory so I’m not going to be physically ill at the end from having too many.

It took a second for the penny to drop, but then I realized that the reason the manager was so pissed off and possessive over her sodas was that she'd recently had to start spending her own hard-earned money bringing them in to the office. Because they were no longer being provided "free" in the break room.

10:50 "creme brulée" means "burnt cream". they were ordering "creme brulee" when all they wanted was "creme"

Sad to be Leaving: He didn't jump to a conclusion that she would miss him. He was straight up mocking her display of emotion.

Story 2: OP really gave the uncle the ‘parent mad at child’ treatment with calling them by their full name. You know you’ve messed up when someone calls you by your FULL legal name.

20:23 it can be environment. I grew up in a loud family, so I struggled as a kid to notice when I was either too loud or too quiet. The kids will (hopefully) learn to be more aware of their volume in school.

I do like that the customers who wanted a "reconstructed" deconstructed apple tart were chill when they had the difference explained to them, that's a nice change of pace from entitled people (and I totally understand not knowing what a "deconstructed" food is)

Crazy to think that no one knows my full name anymore. Not since I changed it. For trans reasons, you know.

11:25 Not a pastry chef, but a line cook in a scratch kitchen and was set up to be the head baker before that fell through. Pastry absolutely is an art form and honestly borderline a religion. Things are particular and some are very very fussy. OP was fully in their right to get pissed off about all these modifications. Whether it was the server or the customers not understanding what the items were, there's a limit to modifications. I once got asked if I could make a burger that "didn't taste so meaty". Plain burger, just patty and bun. They were not asking for a veggie burger and got offended when offered it. There's a LIMIT!

The problem with using lore dumping as a weapon to get people to leave is how badly it can backfire if you have someone who also lore dumps and wants to trade stories.

Cooking is Art
Baking is science
Making Pastries is both!

Story 2: If someone misgenders you and you know their full name, use this. Especially the people “don’t have pronouns”

7:57 - Reminds me of that "eggless omelet" comedy bit

Tbh, if was a server at a fancy restaurant, I would be really happy if they walked me through the entire menu. Being a server is being a sales person and you need to know what products there are and who they appeal to do it well
