In the early 1990s, Russia experienced massive political changes. The Soviet Union ceased to exist, and Boris Yeltsin took power. Seeking to strengthen his position in the country, the new president decided to weaken the communists. To this end, he first banned their activities in the country and then confiscated their assets. However, the communists were not about to give up easily and sought help from a court to determine whether Yeltsin had the right to do so. Meanwhile, the president questioned the legality of the CPSU and asked the justice system to try the communists for their past mistakes. The press began writing about the Soviet Nuremberg Trials.
How did this legal battle end? Were the communists held accountable for their crimes? You'll find out in the latest episode of the "Postwar" series.
