I think franchise fatigue is only part of the story. A bigger factor might be the way entertainment has changed. Younger generations didn't grow up with He-Man, and they aren't automatically interested in the nostalgia of previous generations. They tend to connect more with worlds that were built during their own lifetime: gaming, creators, internet culture, and interactive communities. On top of that, rising living costs make people much more selective about what they pay to see in theaters. It's not that franchises are dead; it's that brand recognition alone is no longer enough to get people off their couch and into a cinema.

anecdotally, while I wanted to go see MOTU, my 16 year old daughter wanted to see Scary Movie, and my 13 yr old son wanted to see backrooms. My wife hates seeing a movie on opening weekend, so we did none of that. I'm gonna take my older son to see MOTU on Saturday though... I've been looking forward to this for 40 years.

This is one of those movies that are going to be huge in streaming. 😬

Most of the target audience is probably at home thinking that, as an Amazon release, this movie is going to be on Prime in a couple months. They're waiting to see it then. It will be easier and cheaper. I guess, despite being 50, I am still a big kid though because I LOVE going to the cinema as often as I can, including seeing MOTU opening day. I've got a whole list of summer movies I want to see and I can't wait! 🤩

It's really good. Perfectly cast, perfectly paced, and there isn't anything anyone could say negative about it really. So It only bombed because people haven't seen it. Not because it's not good

The problem is that we live in a time where everyone hates everything and the only way to show it is to bash the work of others.  This movie was great and deserves a sequel.

SECRET OF THE SWORD in live action, now that would be a film

You know…I think you can overthink why people are not going to watch movies. I go to the movies, but it is more an event kind of thing. So, we go to Alamo Drafthouse to have a real meal and drink as we watch a movie we were so hyped to watch. We have seen, Project Hail Mary, The Sheep Detectives, and Mando and Grogu. But, we can’t go to the movies every week. We go to concerts, cons, and other events. So, the average person picks and chooses…especially in the summer…where you want to go to the beach or boardwalk.

I think a lot of the criticism around MOTU says more about us than the movie itself. When I watched He-Man as a teen, I didn’t dissect plot or demand a darker backstory. It was a fun cartoon—action, imagination, a PSA—and I moved on. Now, so much focus is on heavy critique that it’s just stopping people from seeing films altogether. And perhaps we just need to remember suspension of disbelief—not every story has to be overanalyzed. Just let yourself enjoy it.

Since Covid people have got used to waiting for streaming, it will be available to watch at home within a couple of months. I remember in the 90s you’d have to wait a year or so until you could rent on vhs, up to another year until release on Satellite or Cable and a further year or two until terrestrial tv.

I didnt watch it, but after the first 10min of this video im inspired to. It sounds like a good time. Gonna pause here to avoid spoilers and come back

I had a blast with this film, it was a lot of fun, I really hope it picks up the coming weeks.
I understand the feedback from everyone, and the financial climate is awful, but at least I could go on an adventure again.

From 2007 to 2020, my wife and I went to the movies every Friday for date night. We had theater memberships, collected points, and I never missed a major midnight release. After COVID, I realized I have zero interest in ever going back. For two people, tickets, drinks, snacks, and food can easily hit $100. Then you get stuck in a room with strangers, people on their phones, people talking, and self appointed theater enforcers who think everyone needs to follow their personal rulebook. Guys like Ryan make the experience even worse by turning minor annoyances into public confrontations because they think their version of theater etiquette is law. I'm excited for Masters of the Universe, Mortal Kombat, Supergirl, Spider Man, and Avengers Doomsday, but I'll watch every one of them at home. The second they hit streaming, I'll pay $30, throw them on my AR glasses, and watch them on a massive screen without spending $100 to be annoyed by strangers. It isn't about being antisocial. It's about realizing the better experience is sitting in my own house.

My theater was packed and I heard little kids laughing along with the adults. I mean those kids were cackling at the jokes and funny bits.

When they did the jailbreak hallway walk and started coughing, I thought the Skunk villain showed up. That would have been epic.

Man Ryan the castle Grayskull popcorn bucket is the absolute coolest popcorn bucket ever. It has a built in cup holder and the skull opens up to put your candy. So bad ass.

Going to the movies is damn near a luxury today, people barely getting by and everything is very expensive
Its not affordable as it used to be years ago

The movie was simply put...FUN.  I'm almost 50 and I took my 12 year old son and my 47 year old wife.  We all loved it.  My wife was super excited about the cameo in the credits.  She actually wanted to see it again in the theater.  She never wants to do that.

I enjoyed it with friends yesterday. It’s very funny. But it’s also very much an inside joke for people who watched the original cartoon. I’m 51! The cartoon was on in 1983!!!
It being a flop shouldn’t be a surprise tho.

My only issue I had that left me a tad sad was NOT seeing Cringer's transformation. That is INSANELY important IMO.
