This Gerald guy probably was let go from his family so when he met a woman who would never let go over a dead man, he calls her weak because he thinks letting go his strength. In life you never really let go of someone you lost. I certainly haven’t let go of the passing of my Grandfather.

I think the public apology would have also mentioned something like I did it at retaliation during a bitter divorce.

Aftermath: Gerald violates the restraining order and smacks Josie, punches Ryan, forces Josie mom into signing over her house on her grandchild gets thrown into on coming traffic. Patricia signs the house to Gerald who calls the police on Josie mom, Josie and Ryan for trespassing on his property. The 3 of them get 4 years in prison for stealing the property from Gerald. He raises Josie daughter and teaches her how to screw people lives up.
