I've built a couple of no-name $65 strats and a couple of Glarry's. Each guitar, whether naked or pre-assembled, required some tweaking and peaking. Figuring out how to make them work right without expensive mods has been one of the most satisfying things I've ever done. When you build it, set it up, troubleshoot it, and finally jam on a $65 guitar like it was a $500 guitar you touch something cosmic. So, I highly recommend building cheap, but you gotta have a little puzzle-solver in you.
Awesome video!! I'd be irate if I'd gotten one of those things thinking I'd be able to throw it together and have it work just like that. Love the new intro, and the outro song is great too. Nice work my friend.
I just got one of those but it was a simple black finish and was $110 US. Had the same problem with the access to the truss rod and had to elongate the hole in order to adjust the neck. The neck already had a shim at the heel so did not have the high action as you did. Also, the neck pickup was way too dark so I ordered a DiMarzio Twang King that should arrive tomorrow. The fret work is pretty good. I am new to the guitar set up process so the problems actually helped me to learn. Excellent video.
Love the opening graphic and music clip. Enjoyed watching you walk through the kit. I loved your joy and watching you have so much fun. Black line on the non-labeled quick connect was a good tip. No doubt a beginner would have no clue what to do with those strings. I appreciated your fair analysis, balanced review, and cautions to new players & builders. Rock on!
Great video, J! I was hoping you got the gold one! As I've had this kit, I can't say there were any surprises - although I don't remember mine having the neck screws pass through the body like that. I was somewhat surprised that they haven't changed the saddle screws since a year ago - so many people seem to have trouble intonating this model with the hardware provided. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it! BTW, I bought mine for $85 US a year ago, upgraded nearly everything, and sold it pretty quickly for $175. Once some issues are addressed, it's a good little guitar. Cheers, my friend!
For some reason I was thinking how nice a Firebird or P90 pickup would sound in the neck. You still knocked it out of the park! That theme song at the end! Wow!!!!
The red Leo kit I just finished was supposed to be gold but Leo send red same as the Tease I love the gold. I think you pretty much have it down to it the box assembled and play. Yea you nailed it. Nice job J 😊😮
I bought one un finished had the manual. Painted candy apple red ❤ it, I bought a replacement electronics kit locking tuners. Should be able to play it tomorrow.
I did a Leo Jaymz tele kit with the HH and a 2 pt trem and had to modify it a bit, changed the pickups, locking tuners and put a dead stop in to keep the trem in tune after using it. It plays amazing and stays in tune now. Not a beginner kit either.
