Why is it that Dakota just always has the worst takes? "What other people call them will basically be their name" Literally not how names work. Everyone says my name wrong, that doesn't make it correct. I didn't adopt people's version of my name growing up just because they can't spell or pronounce it. Everyone with a foreign name goes through this as well. We're going to pronounce it the way our parents say it and as our family say it. Everyone else is objectively wrong otherwise.

And Secondly, saying that Sophia is wrong when you asked the question is dumb AF. Why bother asking then if you already had made up your mind on the answer- a wrong answer no less. I grew up and live in Quebec, and picked bilingual names for all three kids. My name is very French, and it gets massacred all the time. It doesn't bother me, but I tried to avoid it for my kids. Sister is a witch.

Gonna start calling Dakota  "Dack-otah"  thats his name now.

Dad in story 1 is awesome. When your adult children fuck up, they do need support, but they also need to face the consequences of their actions. If you cheat on your spouse, people are going to get angry with you,.because you caused hurt to someone they care about. Shielding someone from the consequences of that action does absolutely nothing to help them, it just enables them to continue their bad behaviour.

Dakota clearly has never had his name mispronounced let alone ALWAYS mispronounced. My name for some reason is SO HARD for people to get their head around. My whole life people, even after introducing myself with the correct pronunciation (care-in) STILL call me KAREN almost every time. And that’s BEFORE they see how it’s spelled!

The amount of different things people have called me is insane.. and my name isn’t even that complex. Dakota’s intense hatred for French Canadians is WEIRD and obnoxious.

Honestly the second storys take from dokota is honestly kinda irritating. It wasn’t hard for me in elementary school to ask and learn how to say someone’s name, not to mention most decent teachers will ask the student how to properly pronounce their name and help their other students to do the same. The fact that they’re French Canadian doesn’t rly change the principle. If someone tells you how their child’s name is pronounced, you can either make an effort or not. The mother herself said that her friends have no problem saying them correctly?? so

I'm a Canadian who actively refused to learn French cause it was shoved down our throats in school despite living in an English speaking area. Admittedly I have my own bias against Quebec, but that's against the politics not the people. That's just to say even if I'm a bit with you on some of it, your entire behavior here is off-putting.
There's at least three ways to pronounce my name alone. While I generally don't care about how other people pronounce it, it can get annoying when someone just ignores the right pronunciation even after hearing it, and I'm less inclined to interact with them since it shows their shitty character.
For people, it can be a pretty sore subject. Especially if their names are constantly being mispronounced. It's not hard to learn to pronounce someone's name right, and that goes for names of ANY culture, even your own. You don't have to get it 100% right if it's not something you're able to, but it's just showing someone human decency to even try.

Names are part of our identities. It's part of what shapes us. Either they're a gift from your parents, or something you chose and changed for yourself. Your bias is making you assume OP is just being pretentious, and it's honestly making you look like an ass. While I'm sure you didn't mean it to be, your take is basically shitting on people's personal identities.
