Why did Jews and Christians separate? Jesus and his first followers were Jews: how, then, did a distinct religious tradition arise? In this documentary, we explore the origins of Christianity and its progressive separation from Judaism, amidst faith, wars, taxes, and power in the Roman Empire.

The story begins in Antioch, with a dispute between Peter and Paul over who could sit at the same table. It continues through the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem in 70 AD, the Jewish taxation imposed by Rome, and the decisions of the emperors Domitian and Nerva. How much did Roman taxes contribute to sharpening the boundary between the communities?

We will then follow the Bar Kokhba revolt, the rise of Constantine, and the Council of Nicaea, up to the Christians who, as late as the 4th century, still attended synagogues and participated in Jewish festivals.

Through ancient letters, testimonies, coins, and documents, we reconstruct a separation that lasted centuries. A story in which religious differences intertwine with belonging, money, and everyday choices.

💬 When does a separation become truly definitive: when authorities establish it or when people's habits change? Share your opinion in the comments.
