Harry Stephen Keeler, a true American "Outsider" author, known for his utterly bizarre "webwork" mysteries (and SF)....published in the UK by Ward and Lock until the 50's. Many agree that the best place to enter his bizarre world is "The Riddle of the Traveling Skull"🥶

@danjameson1572 3 months ago

at 19:15 in the "Modern Fiction" a copy of "X-Jones" by Harry Stephen Keeler-that cracked me up - if you don't know HSK he was a world in himself

@danjameson1572 3 months ago

that looked like an American edition of Keeler's "X Jones" which might be quite rare in the UK....there is a cabal of Keeler collectors and 1st editions fetch very nice money.

At 43:26 we see some Big Little Books in very nice condition, but for 40 British pounds which would be about 50 American dollars. Here in the states I usually see Big Little Books going for 30-40 dollars, but are usually in beat up shape. There must be quite a demand for those, otherwise it's hard to justify those prices.

Hi Jules - I was actually there just a few days after you, on a sunny, very busy Saturday. I did not have enough time either, though I did make it into about half a dozen stores. The first was Bookshop 451 and some of the books you filmed were still there: A few are coming home with me. Thanks for another fun video.

Have to say, Bookshop451 is indeed magnificent. I went about a week after they opened and bought some nice stuff, and left a hundred quid lighter, and then went again last Saturday and bought more stuff that hadn't been there first time around. So, while it is a worry on how quickly they get new stock, in the 7 or 8 weeks between my visits, there was indeed new stock. Touch wood they can keep refilling the shelves because it's now the one shop in Hay I actually look forward to go to! Great video Jules, Hay is starting to look a bit better these days.

Interesting tour. Jules, have you ever seen the very rare, limited printing asbestos dust jacket first edition of FAHRENHEIT 451? Your partner The Outlaw and I have clashed in the comments once or twice on the Vintage SF channel and I think he considers me just another dumb American! Maybe he’s right! 😖
