Tons of quirks in MHA don't get the recognition that they deserve, so today I'm taking a look at vigilanties to prove how these weaker quirks are honestly a lot stronger than they might seem.

Early in the main series, All Might explained that most quirk users don't fully understand the nature of their quirks initially, so it's common for them to update their lisence to reflect this. For e.g someone who initially thought their quirk was shooting water from their finger tips would later discover the true nature was converting air molecules around them into water and directing the stream. While that just sounds like a more technical explanation of the original it does open up more possibilities of what that quirk could do with training.

Technically he was always capable of flight from as early infancy but his mother and her quirk inhibited him

Just because Vigilantes in more grounded than MHA that doesn’t mean they can’t be OP in their own right.

Honestly the only reason knuckle duster isn't a pro hero, is because he stopped renewing his license when he stated he could easily continue doing so. Bro just thought being a vigilante gave him more freedom to acr

The thing I love about quirks is that you usually just get a power.

But there is always ways to expand
1. Output: Either you make the power stronger through training

2. control: you learn to control it better and use it more efficiently.

3. Versatile application: Find out new ways to use your existing abilities for different results and effects.

4. Ability realisation: find out that your quirk had other abilities you never even knew of, but always had.

And lastly if that isn't enough, you can push it so far beyond that your quirk awakens and forcefully gains a new abilities you actually never had.
Aka 5. Quirk awakening.

Not to mention your body also adjusts and adapts to your quirk to support it in some cases based on the type of quirk so there's even that!

Thats actualy why all for one made the nomus, because he realised that there was peopls with op quirks that werent trained enough

Koichi is definitely stronger than he thought, and his quirk was never really weak. Yes training with knuckleduster and his experiences as a vigilante helped hone his technique and reactions, but he was flying as an infant. On paper his quirk is nearly identical to Captain Celebrities, but with the added bonus of being able to use long range attacks and anchor himself.

Had his mother not hampered his use of his quirk by constantly slapping him (instead of just putting a net over the crib and windows), he'd have had years to train with a much stronger quirk( maybe at the cost of learning to use it as efficiently such as with propelling himself across surfaces) and then going to a hero school would bring the rest out of him.

2:12 To be fair, that's how MHA started. It didn't start getting into world ending threats until maybe some of season 3? But Season 4 was grounded and had the similar drug concept + the license stuff. Then Season 5 built up the war and everything escalated on Season 6-7. In season 1 we see Deku throwing hands with Bakugo for the most part without a quirk and only resorts to using it when he realizes there's no way he could beat Bakugo without using it.

To put it into perspective, koichi's quirk runs on a similar principle to acelorator from a certain magical index. Which makes it even more terrifying how much potential koichi still has by the end of his series

Something that I would like to point out is that Quirks are heavily implied to be like a "muscle" that you can train to enhance.
Slide-and-Glide started out only being a slow jog in speed, but he trained regularly with Pro Hero Ingenium.
It was partially though Ingenium's tutorlage that Koichi thought to use his Quirk in reverse to have better handling and control.

I bet the polygraph quirk could be improved to read minds or something vaguely similar but she’s possibly just happy with it’s ability and doesn’t think beyond its current capabilities

Loved the video, the only thing i have to say is at 7:10. You said he unlocked flight, but he always had that one. His mom kinda beat it/trama-ed it out of him. But besides that, everything is spot on.

I think the biggest disappointment with MHA V is the fact that his mother actually says "As a baby he could fly around, but I kept spanking him to stop and eventually he did." Like, on the one hand, I can understand that as a mother, having your baby just fly off would be scary. But on the other hand, this means his quirk was always strong. Trauma basically broke it. He was conditioned into never using it correctly, until he forgot he even could. If he didn't stop flying as a baby, he'd probably be as powerful as he is at the end of the story, but at the start of the story. He didn't start out weak. He started out strong. And had that strength slapped out of him.

And that is actually great that Deku become a teacher in such world like MHA. Just think about it, Deku is that guy who know how to realize Quirks full potential, just remember all insane things what Deku did with Blackwhip or how he use Gearshift. Deku actually teach people how to not just use your Quirk, but how to realize it's full potential. That is why it's perfect for Deku to be s teacher, he can change the entire society with this type of teaching ( and he actually did )

I believe the reason why people "believe they have a weak quirk" is soemthing of the society or even the government, they want to downplay quirks to maintain public safety, people have to believe their quirk is just weak and move on, if everyone started training them diligently and finding out so much power, society would destabilize once more, only those with best grades and scholarships (and most of the time money) can gain access to special academies where they're finally taught their quirks can evolve and improve tremendously through training

all powers can be pushed further basically

@eduardohound-s4j 1 year ago

I really liked the way you classified quirks.

Elastic, Semi-solid, Solid.

But I always believed that there is a fourth type of quirk or at least a subtype.

In this case it would be a "Potential" type quirk, in which case they would be quirks that need another quirk to work.

An example would be Aizawa's or La Brava's quirk, as they need a target with a quirk for their power to work.

The first time he did something different Engineum said he might be able to go faster but he's too scared too. After that first step showed change he stopped letting his fear control him
