Making my own wedding dress was such a wonderful and unique experience. 🤍
I was inspired by our Havana Nights theme and the art deco styles of the 1920’s. I have been designing this dress in my head since I started making dresses and it was so gratifying to see this design come to life. ✨
I knew immediately that I wanted to use Circulo Natural Cotton with silver metallic thread. I am so grateful to them for sending the perfect yarn 🧶💕
I used glass beads and freshwater pearls to create the beaded details. Working with real pearls was no small task but it elevated the dress so much.
I have to give a special shout out to my sister-in-law Jasmine who is also a stellar Crocheter. I could not have made this dress happen without her. She was very instrumental in creating the back details and figuring out how to make the perfect bustle. I am thankful to the gods and ancestors for blessing me such an amazing sister-in-law who also happens to be a great crocheter. How lucky am I?! 🤯

Though it was a labor of love I have never loved a dress more and I have never felt more beautiful. I felt it represented me, my spirit and the love that I feel for my new husband.

Just one thing I want to remind everyone on that wants to do this💚 Corset. There is more than one reason for heavy dresses to have a good structure under. The weight of the dress and beads will drag the whole dress down and not sit comfortably. With a good fit on the torso it will help a lot. Here were I live we use a heavy wool dress 1-3 times a year. And the most important part of that dress is the torso. If the dress is not tight about the waist and chest the shoulders will carry the weight.
I am not an important designer or anything but building a dress to last is a way for it to also be carried down to your daughters or granddaughters too 💚 So it’s both comfort, wearability and sustainability 😍
