Back in the late 70' and early 80's while in the Canadian army we found AFL on Canadian Sport Channel in the barracks.

We loved it and on the weekends we would go out on the pitch and play.

We weren't quite sure of all the rules not having a rule book (no internet).

We would come back muddy and bloody.
Then and go for a 35 cent draft at the mess, laughing our heads off.

We were all about hockey, but shit what a game too bad we didn't  have this sport in Canada

It would be cool to watch an actual game some day!

I love this game. As an American I get the game because I have watched it since childhood. What I don't know is, how the draft works? How free agency works? And other basic, player based powers happen.

I'm from Mexico and I have to say I just fell in love with it. I'll need to watch some matches snd do some research to pick a team. Cheers to Australia for keeping it real!

I used to be a carlton supporter, but eagles since 87,but still cheer them on when not playing us.

really hope this converts some people over to our wonderful sport!

You are a great advocate for the game and explain everything about it really clearly for new folk. Great video.

Absolutely love this reimagining of the "What is AFL" video.  Very well done.

This is a great sport I love Australian Rules Football.!   When I was a kid we  played American football without pads much like AFL.

Very beautifully described.. growing up with it you're kinda unaware how it would seem confusing to others outside Australia watching it for the first time, but you summed it up very well 👍

Beautifully done cobber. I hope you follow the boys at windy hill

Thank you for including aboriginal people much appreciated ❤️

So happy someone finally updated this. The old AFL explained left a lot to be desired. It just didn’t explain enough. Thanks

Good job, mate!! Well done....
'Up there, Cazaly!" forever

Bro this is the best explanation ive seen lol.

That  was  wonderful ..You really nailed it .. I know that if our game got proper exposure overseas it'd soon rival soccer . I do like rugby union ...Don't dislike soccer...not a big fan of rugby league and just can't fathom american football  but Aussie Rules rules them all I reckon ...Thanks again for a fantastic and enthusiastic summary of the great game..

Was deployed on the USS John F. Kennedy  in 1982 and we pulled into Fremantle for a few days, and a number of us were given free tickets to a special event  game and I absolutely fell in love with the game.

How wonderful!  Thank you for this explanation…I love watching this sport. I have a nephew who plays for the AFL, USA team.  It’s so different and fun to watch from any angle. The rules are fairly uncomplicated and the game moves so fast. These players are true athletes.  It’s so exciting!  When I get Australia, I’m getting tickets to watch some Australian Football, for sure!  Great video!

Well done, fellow ginger top. Signed Bluebells from Kingsbury.

Well explained mate.

Well done Dan.
Can I suggest you do a video or mention how you first came to see or hear about Australian Football?
Was that in Britain? How does the AFL crowd experience compare to an English soccer or rugby crowd? I am always amazed at how much you do know about the game, the tactics, making heat maps etc.
I lived over there during 1973 and 74 and there was a footy league in the south of London. The Wimbledon Hawks or Wildcats? Can't remember.
In those days the only newspaper than carried the VFL scores was the Daily Mail on a Monday. I couldn't believe the Mail's 73 grand final result that I went into Australia House in London later in the week to read the Melbourne Sun, however the result didn't change.
I remember a relative complaining about me using the word footy. He said, "You Aussies are always shortening words" He is married to an Australian. Now you hear "footy" used in British TV shows.
Anyway, keep up the good work with Blues Abroad.
