When I started my coding journey, I left my job as a buyer in a large food company and looked for an entry level job in the medical field. I knew getting my foot in the door was very important and would be easier in the long run to transfer departments than trying to get a coding job as an outside hire. Each department I worked has brought value to being a coder. I started as a Surgery Scheduler, mostly scheduling pain injections for the spine. I gained so much empathy for the patients in that position. From there I moved to claims and billing. That position gave me a look into the insurance world and how important it is to have correct diagnosis codes. Insurance companies will deny a claim for the smallest things, so accuracy in coding is so important… and now as a coder, I know you can only be as accurate as the provider’s notes 🤪

If you are having difficulties finding a position with providers offices or facilities, might I suggest looking at claims companies. These companies are called TPA's (third part administrators). I've worked for TPA's for 20 years either directly or thru a vendor. CPCs are highly sought for in the Bill Review areas. I specialized in Workers Compensation and use my CPC every day.

I had to use an AI to change the wording of my resume and that made a huge improvement. At first I was getting reject letters bc all the resumes were sent through this AI things that is scanning for key words. If you don't have the key words then you get rejected and it doesn't even make it to the deck.

I lucked out! I was able to train under a CPC as an admin. The stipulation was once I pass my CPC exam, the hospital promoted me. Very thankful I don't have to deal with the job search stress!

I have my CPC-A certification. I have one more CEU credit to obtain for June. I never had any experience in the healthcare field so am going to use this certification that I studied hard for. I am open to learning new things and obtain new skills.

Yeah, I decided weeks ago coding isn’t for me! Can’t find a job, can’t even get an interview! I have an RHIT and I will utilize it doing something else and something more fitting!

I passed the CPC last week (92%) in big thanks to this channel. I do find that this period is about figuring out how to maintain membership and what’s offered as benefits as well as resume/cover letter prep and confidence building. I have more than 2 years of coding adjacent experience and am going into the job search without the apprentice on my certification . Thank you for the job search and CEU tips!

I actually got hired because I didnt have my CPC, but I was fresh out of a college degreed program. My organization wanted someone with no bad habits that they could develop:)

I’m having such a hard time trying to get CTUs, I was the speaker on a conference and the company didn’t let me give the providers the student form, now I don’t know , and work full time, pursuing my masters , whole family, I which AAPC wasn’t so inflexible

i’m starting my CPC and CPB class with the AAPC tomorrow. I’m so excited about this career but it makes me so nervous because I live in a very small town. There are plenty of doctors, and even vision in dental offices, but there is only one hospital. Can you give any advice for people who live in small towns that want to find work?

I've been hard at work studying for the CIC as my 1st credential aiming for remote work. It's been tough but soon I'll take my exam. Hopefully Ed2Go will follow thru with their job placement promise. I come from a decade of customer service & retail management. Will that help?
