In the sleepy Catskills town of Bovina, New York, a culinary couple left their hectic New York City lives behind and purchased a 1,000 square foot former barrel making workshop. Over time, they carefully transformed the modest structure into a minimalist yet cozy homestead, blending clean design with the warm, lived in feel of country living. Their renovation honored the building’s origins while creating a peaceful retreat rooted in simplicity and craft. This Catskill renovation is a quiet, inspiring look at intentional living, creative reuse, and finding home far from the rush of city life.

Diary of an Old Home offers intimate stories from homeowners who have restored and reimagined historic houses across the country. Each episode highlights the character, heritage, and thoughtful updates that turn old structures into meaningful, modern homes.

oooh yeah I never listen to what "people" say. I go with what my spouse or kids say, and God....but "people"? Nope. You have a lovely home and the reason for that is you did what you wanted to do.

Fantastic restoration. A hint of Scandinavia. Walking across the street to your workplace, is much more than economically practical.

I love what you did with your space and your way of life. I once read of a homeschool family that idolized living in the country while the dad’s work was 40 minutes away in the city. It took time but made a decision to be closer to the city where dad could actually join the kids and mom for lunch!! It makes sense. Peace to you both.
