I break down the game, and explain different approaches you can take to improve your play in closed positions. Great lesson GM Friedl. The one thing you didn't cover is whether you need to plan ahead in the opening for whether or not the opponent will allow youto open the position or close it and to evaluate which will be better, thus deciding whether to give them the option or not.

I think White might have had a f5-f6+ pawn sac to open up the f5 square for the rook or the knight at some point around 34-35 minutes into the video.

oh I wrote that before you actually played 1..Qh3, but the position I was thinking the Black king held the rook on h8 so the White knight hung.

With the White queen on c5, 36 minutes 51 seconds in, you say the White knight can check on h5, but it's Black to move I think so if 1..Qh3 2Nh5+? RxN 3gxR QxR -+ but instead 2Qe3 or 2Qf2 or 2Qg1 all hold the Ng3.
