Thank you everyone who was here for this Live 🙏 Thank you everyone on YouTube who’s enjoyed the journey 👊

This game rare, special and unique. It’s been a hell of ride. Huge props to Sandfall for making this masterpiece 🎮

UPDATE: I misspoke at 1:12:26. I’m talking about Verso IN Maelle’s ending. I was tired and didn’t word that properly. I added a subtitle to clarify, but some people didn’t read it. They probably won’t read this either, but I’m putting it here anyway.

"Your friends speak truth, and it changes nothing"

Renoir always gets the the coldest lines.

- Maelle ending is "A Life to Paint"
- Verso's is "A Life to Love"
- Words on painted Alicia's letter "A Life to Dream"

A sad ending painted happy. A happy ending painted sad. A choice between a bitter truth, or a beautiful lie.

I don't care what genre of game Sandfall makes next, I'm a day one buy.

Verso’s ending allows his true soul to rest. I think that’s why Monoco and Esquie were willing to help painted Verso destroy the canvas. They wanted their friend to find peace.

also Lune sitting down has mad meaning, she said ''as long as one of us is still standing, our fight isnt over'' so in the end, she sat down.

I also think you can read Verso's ending as the last little bit of his soul protecting his sister one last time and helping her move on

I think the ending is also a reflection of us as gamers. We want to choose Maelle's ending because we don't want to leave the game, we don't want the story to be over, we want to keep playing and know what happens next. But Verso's ending is accepting the fact that the game ends. There is nothing else for the characters after the game is done; he even says, "It's ok, it's over". He's not just telling that to the last piece of Verso's soul. He's telling the players that the story is over and that's ok.

1:40 I really appreciate how Renoir doesn't dismiss Lune and Sciel when they address him in this scene. I think a lot of lesser writers would have made him respond with some villain cliche like "I won't be swayed by the hollow words of a bit of spilled paint!" or some other nonsense. It was a very subtle beat, but it was very impactful to me.

apparently, in french, Verso's headstone says, "Forever painted in our hearts".

"Life keeps forcing cruel choices" hits really hard

Finished this game and a week later my father died. It made me see all the characters in a new light. Aline, Maelle and Verso. The pain of the losing, the desire to keep the person here... even knowing it may not be what the person would have liked... and finally the acceptance of letting things flow. Live with the pain.
Both these phases keep repeating in my head
"When one falls, we continue. Not if. WHEN."
"For those who come after"

"finding a way to live with that pain and face the truth no matter how ugly, no matter how brutal, no matter how painful and upsetting it is. 'Cause, what else are you going to do, live a lie?" - Sebbywebz, 2025... probably the greatest quote and the best quote I have ever heard.

What I find interesting is how the Dessendre family portray the various stages of grief:
Aline (the Paintress) seems to best represent denial. She recreates her family and pretends nothing happened to them.
Clea represents anger. She is angry at both Alicia/Maelle and the Writers for the death of her brother and Aline for abandoning them.
Alicia/Maelle represents bargaining. By Act 3, she is trying to negotiate with Renoir to keep the painting.
Verso represent depression. Painted Verso has an immortal life, burying (and implied he killed) friends over the years.
Renoir represents acceptance. Despite grieving for his dead son, he has accepted his son is gone and knows they need to heal. It's why I prefer Verso's ending since it is the start of the family to accept and heal from a tragedy (compared to Alicia's where it is escapism, similar to using drugs and alcohol to suppress grief)

I also have a weird game theory why Renoir can accept Verso's death easier than Aline and Alicia. Looking at Verso's grave, he was born in 1879. I suspect Renoir served as an officer in the Franco-Prussian War (I'm assuming he's an aristocrat based on the manor the family lives in and at the time, aristocrats did not marry below their statue). He probably saw a number of comrades die while fighting against Prussia/Germany. It's also suggested he got lost in a painting once. It wouldn't be surprising that to stave off his grief, he painted a world where his comrades lived and Aline had to rescue him. Now he has to help his family similar to how he had to be helped.

Either way, this is one of the best games I have played in a long time. I was ready to give up on gaming in general with the amount of slop that continues to be produced, all the microtransactions, and live service projects. This game has really helped rejuvenate my love for video games and storytelling in general. This is easily in my top ten games of all times, up there with the og FFVII and Snake Eater (please don't mess up the remake Konami).

The endings can be summarized as a happy lie vs a tragic truth

"Your friends speak thuth, and it changes nothing.". Such powerful words.

From someone who lost their brother at the age of 29 he was shot and killed and then losing my father two months after to a broken heart this game hits so hard because I would want to see them again but I had to live with that pain

Saw this comment elsewhere… “Verso is based as he sacrificed his real life to save Maelle from the fire, then he sacrificed his painted life to save the family from dying from grief.”

Verso's ending seems more true.  But goddamn the canvas people deserved better.  These gods create their world and bring all their family drama into it only to be tossed aside.
