OPEN ME!: Today I'm opening up about the truth about indie author income. As an indie author with 9 published novels in the past 6 years, I thought it was finally time to share my experience with publishing and earning royalties. This is the video I wish I'd found when I first started my indie author career. Whether you're an author starting out or a reader who reads a lot of indie authors, I hope you enjoy and find this helpful/interesting.

Did you mean you had 40,000 or 4,000 page reads? Because at a little less than half a cent (which is about what I've received for the 9 years I've been on Amazon) 40,000 would be over $150. For instance, I had 34,760 page reads in January and I made $137.74.

A person really needs to write because they love to write. Perhaps we'll get lucky and some golden words will find their way to our pens, and it will earn us some money. But ultimately, we do it because we can't not do it. Best of luck, everyone. God Bless.

Thank you for being so open! As a reader, I had no idea that KU paid by pages read! Sometimes I swap between a physical or audio copy and the kindle copy, so now I’ll make sure to read through all the pages!

I’m not a writer, I used to be but not anymore. Just a reader. But I LOVE your videos. I don’t know why I just like watching you so much, you give me such a calming impression.

As an author and an avid reader, I ALWAYS purchase a copy of a book I've loved on KU. It just seems like the right thing to do when I know very well how much work goes into writing and publishing a novel.

I totally agree. Writing and even editing is invigorating. Publishing is hard and often draining.

Hello Andrea, I came across your page while searching for fellow indie authors who work full-time and also write. I've been an indie author for 18 years, and it is not easy. I had to learn not to chase money because when you are an indie author, the money may come slowly. In my 40s, I now write for the love of it. Thank you for your authenticity. I enjoyed the chat.

This is the honesty I needed. Especially the truth about the first book not earning as we hope to. Thank you so much for this!

Really interesting! I haven't seen anyone else break down how Kindle Unlimited compensates authors. I just found your channel today, but I'll definitely check out more of your videos.

As a newly self-published author (published about 11 months ago), I super appreciate you sharing all this information!

Such a valuable video, thank you!! I'm grateful to learn about your writing journey and cannot wait to become a new reader of your books! 📚📚📚📚📚

First time writer in the creative writing world, but experienced technical writer (Im an engineering researcher irl). I have trouble with not being super technical and straight to the point. Getting back into the space of using descriptive words and the five senses to describe things.

This is great information ❤

@Lala.and.twinkle 10 months ago

Very interesting thank you. I had no idea that authors didn’t get paid for re-reads. I will definitely try and buy favourite books from now on. It seems hugely unfair.

@melissafrick3997 11 months ago

This is really great info! I will say one of the perks to a standalone is you're then much more appealing to bookstores and libraries. They can try out your name and title without committing to a series
