I said it before about this cord, "The future is here!"  It's cool to see it in use.

This is one of those “wait… that shouldn’t work, but it does” experiments I love. Carbon-based conductive fibers hidden inside something that looks like paracord is wild, especially seeing it perform as a real 2m dipole. Makes you rethink what antenna wire even means anymore. Definitely opens the door to some interesting portable and stealth builds. Thank you so much for sharing. 73!

Now that's sweeter than snuff and not as dusty. 😅😅  Awesome video

Great video my friend. Just a little thought. I beleive most multimeters will beep continuity at any value from 0 up to I beleive 50 ohms. If you want to check absolute resistance use the ohm scale.

Interesting concept.  I may try making this with just regular wire.  I already have the connector.

Taking camping to the next level!

Cool build. Do I see the camper in the background there?? 😁

There are other conductive cords that have been around for years you might want to try.  Flexible electric fence cord and strap.  The advantage of this type rope/tape is that it has a much lower resistance.  Depending on which one used it's around 20 Ohms to 48 Ohms per 1,000 feet.  IntelliTwine, IntelliBraid and IntelliRope are a couple of the different types they make.  Runs from 3 Cents per foot for the twine to 17 Cents per foot for the 1/4" 1800LB test rope.  IntelliRope has a average live span of 10 to 25 years depending on the diameter.

It is a 'reinvention' of similar technology used by militarys around the world years ago.

antenna efficiency = radiation resistance / (radiation resistance + resistance of material), providing that HF antenna would have  130ohms plus 50 ohms of pure resistive impedance when tuned we get 50/(50+130)=50/180=27%, That is an equivalent of SWR of 3.1:1
You probably ask: then why SWR is perfect on the meter? There are some information that we have to recall about  SWR. Dummy load shows even better SWR than what is measured. The trick is high resistance where the power is loss. The power loss in the antenna is a good thing usually, however it is important to point how that loss is made. We want to turn that power into an electromagnetic field, not into a heat. The other part of the puzzle is what is SWR. Formula is to complicated for the post but in short it is related to power reflected over power forwarded. In carbon fibre, we cant see big reflection, because 73% of power is loss due resistance of material. We can simulate such effect with a proper antenna and lossy feeder, e.g. RG316, RG175, RG58 where the reflected power is loss in feeder and SWR is low regardless of how bad antenna is.
In summary: Is is t a bad material for the antenna? YES. Should you stop us using it? Here the answer could be counterintuitive - NO. If you QRO then you obviously won't be looking at carbon fibre radiator. If you have capacity to take loads of equipment to support 100W transceiver for POTA then you have resources to bring copper. However for QRPer there is not much difference between 10W and 3W ERP, but the weight means everything in SOTA activations.
One thing I would like to see is how effective this would be in heavy rain.

This is great! I love experimenting.  Most experiments fail but when the worlds align its pretty special.  Thanks Mike.

Those fibers look a lot like the tinsel conductors inside of the old Bell system handset cords.

I would love to see this made out of the reflective version of the paracord. This would make it much easier to see at night.

You can do the same with survival cord it has whats called a snare wire along with fishing line and strands of nylon micro cord ....

Probably not something I'd be likely to use but pretty neat stuff

Get a top hat and wind it around for an antenna 😁😁

Nice experiment try just a loop and heat shrink then no knot needed.

The jack on the camper makes a great attach point for my antenna mast when slinging a thin wire EFHW. Necessary in state parks that have no tree contact rules…. Just sayin’ ;)

Just an FYI, pick up the breakaway chains and drape them over the camper's hitch frame.  Helps prevent little critters from getting in!

Very cool!! Thanks for sharing!!
