SYNOPSIS:
After thirty years spent in America making his fortune, fifty-year-old Nicola Carletti (Renato Rascel) returns to Italy to close an important and lucrative business deal. As soon as he disembarks, however, an incredible bureaucratic surprise awaits him: the Italian government still classifies him as a "draft evader" and therefore he must immediately complete his mandatory military service! Suddenly catapulted into the barracks as a simple overdue recruit, Carletti immediately clashes with the harsh discipline of the iron-clad and uncompromising Marshal Rossi (Aldo Fabrizi). A full-blown war of attrition ensues between the two: Carletti tries everything he can to escape or bribe his superiors to take care of his business, while Rossi won't give him a moment's respite. The situation escalates and becomes delightfully chaotic when their respective children end up falling madly in love with each other...
