Dozens of people have reportedly been injured at Riyadh airport after what a diplomatic source cited by AFP described as a Houthi missile strike on the Saudi capital’s major aviation hub. A hospital source told AFP that at least five Saudi nationals were receiving treatment in intensive care. Some casualties were reportedly serious enough to require evacuation from the airport by helicopter. The precise number of injured people and the extent of damage remain unclear. The reported Houthi attribution has not been independently established. If confirmed, however, a missile reaching the airport would underscore the ability of long-range weapons to threaten critical infrastructure deep inside Saudi territory as fighting with Yemen’s Houthis intensifies. The incident is also likely to renew scrutiny of Saudi Arabia’s heavily funded missile and drone defences. Authorities have yet to establish precisely where the reported impact occurred or how significantly airport operations were affected.
