Weekend Midday News - Scammers are using various methods to deceive people. As is well known, villagers in Maha Sarakham province were tricked into having their faces scanned in exchange for 500 baht for cooking gas. They ended up in debt and have filed a police report. Recently, the agent who recruited the villagers admitted that he too was scammed.

Yesterday, over 30 villagers gathered to demonstrate their innocence, showing reporters bank account documents from various banks. They had fallen victim to a scam involving facial scanning in exchange for 500-700 baht for cooking gas. They later discovered they were tricked into opening bank accounts to take out online loans, and found transaction records showing deposits and withdrawals of 10,000-24,000 baht each, resulting in debt. The entire process of opening and closing the accounts took only four hours.

The victims revealed that before having their faces scanned, they asked if it was illegal and if they would incur debt. The agent assured them it was fine, so they believed him. After the facial scan, they received 500 baht but have been afraid to use the money to this day. Before realizing their names had been used to open bank accounts in Pattani province,

the broker who recruited villagers to have their faces scanned has admitted to doing it for money. He was hired to recruit people for 300 baht per person, starting with his relatives and nearby villagers. He had them ride motorcycles and tricycles to have their faces scanned, and admitted he was also deceived.

The Wapi Pathum Police Station advises that if villagers have had their faces scanned, they should check with their bank to see if their names have been used to open an account. If there are account transactions, money coming in and out, and the account has been closed without their knowledge, they should file a police report. Furthermore, if their account is used to take out a loan through a legitimate loan app, they should receive a debt collection letter. At that point, they should present the letter to the bank. Along with the police report, they contacted the police at Wapi Pathum Police Station.
