--Selling out in less that 38 hours after the video went live wasn't something we anticipated and we had loads of viewers asking when the kit would be back in stock. Well, at least at time of posting this comment, it is officially back in stock. Our production team in Carrollton, Georgia worked really hard to get it back on the shelves as quickly as possible with more on the way.

did not see it mentioned, but the SFP fiber modules in those media converters are special type call BIDI or bidirectional. They run 2 different wavelengths of light for transmit and receive. so a match set with inversion is needed. BIDI fiber modules are more expensive, but allow for a single strand of fiber to do both directions. Typically fiber modules and runs are duplex 2 strand fiber cable.

I didn't hear you mention it, but just a note for those who aren't familiar with fiber: Bi-Di transceivers are able to use two different light frequencies so you can run Duplex traffic (simultaneous two way) over a dingle strand of fiber. Bi-Di equals bi-directional. Most standard fiber runs require a min of two strands so BiDi transceivers, while more expensive, are quite convenient since you can break out each strand for duplex data runs.

While I've heard of Bend insensitive fiber (G657.A1/A2 or even the newer spec of B2/B3) I've not seen anything with a rated bend radius of 2.5mm. Thats crazy. And with a jacket size so thin.

As someone who used to work in the Fiber Optics industry as a fiber optician and had my own passive component device manufacturing facility, I've always wondered why did didn't see this more. Glad to see it.

Wow I am a fibre-optic engineer but I didn’t know you could get that type of fibre so cheap, it’s always been an option, but as little as a few years ago would cost a few thousand dollars in fibre alone. I reckon if you live in an apartment with carpets you could put that along the side of the carpet where it meets the baseboard so level of hiding.

Funny timing. I needed something like this but decided to order some 0.9mm "transparent" fibre and a media converter pair from [well-known chinese store] instead. It's not gonna be quite as nice as this 0.6mm stuff but it was cheap. I'll update this comment when it arrives and I get it set up, assuming I remember. EDIT: It works! Click "show more replies" enough times and you should find another comment I added with some details.

6:29 why can't all fiber be like this

The world needs more videos like this, showing how to route wired LAN without putting wiring in your walls. So many people, especially North Americans, appear to be convinced that room to room routing has to be inside your walls, and that if it isn't, it's just not an option, which is infuriatingly wrong. You don't even need to do this with fiber, I've got Cat6 copper cable running from my bedroom to my living room a floor below, routed with very similar methods to that kit you're using. Not one house guest has noticed it in the several years it's been installed, it never got in the way of anything, and was cheap and easy to get done.

Wow. As someone who works for an ISP installing and repairing this type of fiber on a daily basis seeing a DIY home kit is just bananas. Sure the fiber is more durable than you would think but you still have to know how to be careful with it. Should it break there's no easy way for a DIY'er to fix it.
