A year of trying, five failed paintings, one accidental donkey, and the breakthrough was realizing none of it was ever actually broken.

“You cannot ruin what does not work.” I have to remember that! The painting came out great. Love seeing your thought process.

What you talk about in this video is exactly where I'm living right now. Such a big help! The touches of blue in your final painting, is the old painting winking at you, and whispering.......'I knew you could do it'. Smiles

Yes! great statement! “You cannot ruin what does not work” It makes such sense!! I get so frustrated when there are parts of a painting that I am happy and excited about, but I am unresolved about the rest of it! So then I get “precious” about those parts that I like! At that point, I often stop and abandoned the painting. Then, it becomes something that some day I will return to… or maybe not…I know that I should just push on and recognize that these moments are just a part of the creative process that if I stay with it, I will find my destination.

I love the painting and appreciate you sharing your journey, I paint for fun, for my mental health, I love hearing artists thought process, their struggles and breakthroughs, it helps a wide community!  Thank you for sharing!💕🇨🇦

All of the paintings you show here are beautiful...but I have to say that the first painting you showed that you say didn't work is a painting that I think is beautiful...If I had that painting hanging in my home I would just love looking at it all the time, just as it is.  You never know what someone else will love and would love to have in their home and see it every day. I'm sure I'm not the only person who loved that painting.

Gwen! Exactly what I needed for this week & a painting I'm questioning!!
I have that urgency that you describe...You are my "Wise Woman" teacher❣️
Grateful for You!!

Thank you for sharing your progress and feelings.  I found it validating and encouraging.

You are the best❤️ love your videos. We all struggle sometimes, but I have learn so much from you❤️
Diffent shapes near each other, "cross" let paint go to the edges, depth, colours, brushes, but the most important is your glow, your burn for art, your big heart to share, to pepp, your own struggles..
You are alive!
Love you! ❤️

I love the greens you added to the black shape as usual a truly stunning painting!

Amazing painting!

Looking back at previous work and what I liked about it was a big help. Thank you!! Wishing you continued success.

I'm glad to have found your channel! And I like your work. I don't know if I should feel happy or discouraged that someone as experienced as you still has doubts, and doesn't know what to do with some paintings. I can only conclude that it's part of the painter's life, and something I will have to accept.
I liked a lot of different versions of your painting, and I think you could've just said it was finished at that point. Also when you said, I loved it, but it didn't work. I don't understand that one! It's not like a husband, that you love him even though he doesn't work. To me, if you love the painting, then maybe it works!
Mostly I'm just glad I'm working on paper! Because sometimes I don't like the painting as a whole, but I can find real gems in it and they can just be removed and be their own painting.
I don't start out with an intention. I think you can get hung up in that stage. I think the intention can come after you paint it.
I use acrylics, but I feel like the psychology and the techniques are something that applies across all media. I will keep watching! Thank you for your videos.

Every single thing you said was so informative. Thank you Gwen. Every time i watch your videos, i learn something. It came out beautiful and i love your style.

Oh my gosh, I really really needed this, thank you so much!! You cannot ruin what isn’t working – so so good! I am amazed at the depth you’ve achieved with this painting. You talk about the oil being wet, are you using any mediums at all or just straight paint??. So freaking beautiful!❤❤❤

you're so oool.  I adore you

I really LOVE your painting and your new STYLE! Awesome breakthrough Gwen!!  Deanna xoxoxo

I love what you do!, I'm an old grey, after a long lifetime of shunning abstract, it finally got in somehow!, I found a way to use it, and using it is a lot more fun!. You take care and carry on!.

Merci d'avoir partagé tous ces moments d'incertitudes et d'apprendre qu'une grande artiste comme vous a aussi ces questionnements. Vous me redonnez du courage pour persévérer.❤

I love it and I like what you said you cannot ruin what does not work thank you
