This video is based on the book, Demian, by Herman Hesse and is basically about temptation and accepting both the "good" and "bad" within yourself. The book is heavily influenced by the Swis psychiatrist, Carl Jung. Also, taken directly from the book, is the scene where Suga plays the organ just as Pistorius does. Many of the scenes take place within paintings. Other than The Fall of the Rebel Angels, there is also The Fall of Icarus that's important(Here V is the fallen angel, meaning that he represents evil or Lucifer.) . The "angel" at the end is likely the god, Abraxas. There's also a famous quote from Neitzsche above the mirror that translates to "One must have chaos within oneself to birth a dancing star". The song, the MV and most part of the Wings era are inspired by the book Demian, from Hermann Hess: Emil Sinclair is the protagonist of the novel. Sinclair is confused as to what his life is, and is going to be, and constantly seeks mentorship throughout the novel. He tends to need validation by an older figure, (yo can see each young member is paired with a older one, except Jin, the oldest) and finds mentors in figures such as Pistorius, Demian, and Eva. Pistorius is an organist (aka Suga in the MV) ; Demian is a childhood friend and a mentor of Sinclair. Demian leads Sinclair to his eventual self-realization, and may be considered Emil's daemon. (probably V , as a falling angel, in the MV) . One of the major themes is the existence of opposing forces and the idea that both are necessary. It's about the growth, the loss of innocence , the temptations, and stop covering your eyes to discover the reality and the world as it is. (and yourself ) . Jin, as the oldest, is the first to embrace his dark side (kissing the statue of Abraxas)
Demian is replete with both Jungian archetypes and Jungian symbolism (that BTS used for their Map of the soul era too) .
The Gnostic deity Abraxas is used as a symbol throughout the text, idealizing the interdependence of all that is good and evil in the world. Demian argues that an infinite god must encompass both sides of this world. That's why the statue is white but with black wings. There's a lot of Demian's references in the MV, but also about the fallen angel, Icarus etc .
All the purpose of the song is : you have to embrace your dark side to fully became yourself. "One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star., this is the quote you see in german above the mirror, from Nietzche. It's a coming of age masterpiece.
It is a fact that Jimin has a unique voice. Angelical. It was because his voice that I got into BTS. Silver Army from Brazil đđ§đ·đđ§đ·đđ§đ·đđ
I feel you on Jimin. I have always had the same reaction to him as you do. He has an angelic voice. Temptation itself. But hehas that "IT" factor where you are drawn to watch him. I use their music for pain reduction. I put in earbuds and a sleep mask on and just listen to them. Jimin's voice and BTS over all are in the healing frequency. There are dental practices in South Korea that use their music for pain as well. Did you notice the introduction of the iconic Jimin jacket flip? This is where he slips one shoulder out and gives sexy eyes, then flips it back.
This was the very first song my daughter chose to share to introduce BTS to me. Talk about throwing me into the deep end lol I was absolutely enthralled by their artistry and talent. Thus began my journey down the Bangtan rabbit hole đ đ
