What are Tan Songyun (谭松韵) and Liu Xueyi (刘学义) really like when the cameras stop rolling?
The stars of the 2026 Chinese historical romance Against the Current (兰香如故) have quickly become one of the drama’s most talked-about pairings, thanks to the chemistry between Xu Lanxiang and Lin Jinqi. But while their characters have a complicated love story, the real-life romantic histories of Tan Songyun and Liu Xueyi are a very different story.
In this deep dive, we go beyond Against the Current to uncover the dating histories, relationship rumors, rumored romances, interviews, and personal lives of its two leading stars. We look at the people they have been linked to, where those rumors came from, what evidence actually exists, and which stories were publicly denied.
For Tan Songyun, we explore her rumored connections with Liu Haoran, Ou Hao, Wang Kai, Xu Kai and other co-stars, along with what she has personally said about love, marriage, dating, being single, and her ideal partner. We also take a closer look at her childhood, career journey, personality and the personal experiences that shaped her away from the spotlight.
For Liu Xueyi, we investigate the major dating rumors involving Zhang Yuxi, Yang Zi and other actresses, including the moments that sparked speculation and how the people involved responded. We also explore Liu Xueyi's surprisingly funny off-screen personality, his years of supporting roles, his views on relationships, family, work and what he has said about the kind of woman he wants.
From The Best of Us and Under the Power to Love and Redemption and The Blood of Youth, this video looks at the real people behind two of Against the Current's biggest stars.
Most importantly, we separate confirmed information from rumors, fan theories, media speculation and online gossip, so you can see what is actually documented and what remains unverified.
