I love a sunken living room.

23 & 19 are the same thing, just called different names. The "conversation pit" compared to the "sunken living room" lol

Here in Petrópolis, RJ, Brazil, there's a gentleman, friend of mine, who lives in a nice house at the bottom of a narrow hill. If he drove his car straight into the garage, he would have to reverse all the way down the hill when he got out. So, many years ago he installed a car turntable and can now always exit normally and drive down the hill straight ahead. In that situation, a car turntable is very usefull !

i love dumbwaiters and servants hallways. they are like secret passages and shortcuts.

my uncle had a conversation pit. it ended up being the kids tv room. it was awesome

I still want so many of these in my house! 😂🤣😂

It's a shame about the glass bricks. They looked good.

Service halls and stairs were not installed to erase a class of people. They were installed to give the home owners a sense of privacy. I have a relative that works for a billionaire as a servant. She wishes the house she works in had those corridors so she could get more work done in less time walking around family members so as not to disturb them.

I love a sunken living room and an avocado colored appliance!
The servants quarters would be great for living with adult children, pesky relatives or annoying roommates!

great video

I still love sunken living rooms. if done right they are gorgeous.

‼️‼️‼️ Play this at 2X speed. You’ll thank me. 😏😏😏

I love the sunken living room also called the conversation pit . It has a cozy feel to it.

Those harvest gold and avocado green appliances are still around, AND WORKING.
They just won't die out of sheer orneriness!😱

Growing up in the late 60s and early 70s we had a great uncle with a huge home.  It had secret hallways and a hidden stairway.  My brother and I had a lot of fun playing hide and seek in that house.

I have a central vacuum system in my house. Haven't had any issues in 25 years.

When our house was being bult almost 40yrs ago my mum and dad had one of them vacuums installed. It still works to this day. Has only needed yearly checks with little to no servicing.

I actually worked in an Victorian house in England that still has a separated service entrance & a back staircase plus toilet for the “servants”. That house stands in Northwood, Hillingdon, London. When I left working there I received an aquarel painting showing the front of the house ❤

You are taking worse case scenarios and making it sound like every one of these things was a total disaster.

Somehow I don't believe that Richard Nixon installed a bowling alley at the White House in 1947.
