One thing that’s helped me with reading classics: you don’t have to understand every sentence. Put a tab on the parts you don’t understand and come back to it later. Or don’t. As long as you get the gist, you are getting practice with reading an older book. The act of reading it is practice. I barely understood Frankenstein a few years ago but I read it and loved what I did understand. I have read more classics and I bet when I come back to it, I’ll understand even more.
Progress, not perfection. It takes practice. 😅

Last summer my mom and I spent three months reading War and Peace together, and it was one of the best experiences of my life! This summer we're going to read Anna Karenina.

These intro skits are great, love to see them. 😂

I think despite being such a long book, Don Quixote is such a great & easy classic that anyone can enjoy so i'll always recommend that one.

I swear YouTube should reward you for the most creative intros ever 😭

It’s worth noting that just because a book isnt working for you now doesn’t mean you’re not capable—it might just mean you’re not ready.

I had to read the scarlet letter in high school and was underwhelmed to the point of dislike. It was just too hard. I read it again in a college class with a really good teacher and adored it. It’s in my top five best classics novels now.

Don’t be afraid to put one down and come back to it when you’re in a different place!

The idea of classics in audio format is such a lifesaver for busy professionals like us. Wisebits app makes it so easy to sneak in a story during the commute!

My Mum often tells that she’s read War and Peace, but then admits that she in fact “read the Peace, but skipped the War”

Easy: with glasses, Medium: takes off glasses… I was half expecting her to put on shades for the hard books.

"Who hurt you and why was it Jane Austen" 😂

Loved this! I'm rereading The Count of Monte Cristo. People are scared of it because of the lenght but the writing is so easy to read, it almost feels like a play.

something worth mentioning about little women: the whole book it is now published under this title BUT originally it was two books little women and good wives (2.part). There is still many publishing houses (wordsworth for instance) that sell them separately. So don't be afraid of the lenght - it's two books. And don't be confused if your copy has only 200-300 pages - it might not include good wives.

You are rocking those glasses Emma ❤

@drandon2094 1 year ago

yes emma, more classics 🎉 you should honestly grace us with like a tier list of all the classics you read

I personally would love that sort of video

I would add The Count of Monte Cristo to this list. And I would put it in the "easy" category, because 1) It is a classic 2) It has not complicated language 3) And is SUPER LONG, but so fast paced that you will lose the "fear" of long books forever.
