“Honey come quick, new hour and a half Machiavelli lecture just dropped!”

I love this series.

Amazing series! Ada rocks!! Polymath is an understatement.

The School of Athens, one of my favourite paintings! Perfect backdrop for an ethics lecture.

Fantastic! Thank you so much! What a cultured and intelligent person. 💙💙💙💙💙

i love that she has thought through all these ideas before and can dig deeper into a topic or explain any point she's made.

Another great episode, thank you!

Weekly videos are spoiling me omg

As far as trickle down virtue goes, I don't know if the virtues trickle down but it's easily observed that vice trickles down/corrupts from the top to the bottom

this part was the most fascinating part of reinventing of the renaissance. Maquiavelli just planned ahead and  picked the most pragmatic choices

Ada Palmer you are my da Vinci

Re Adam’s comment around the 25 minutes mark - In Judaism we have this belief that doing the right thing is enough because we cannot see into the minds of others and truly know their intentions. So a good deed done with what we presume to be less than pure intentions is still a good deed, because we cannot ever know the truth about other people’s internal feelings

39:47 Dead Man Walking. Great movie.

My takeaway this week: the whole monasticism can be surmised as „fake it till you make it“ 😂

Got my mug, my muffin and now my Machiavelli!

What were machiavelli's views on the assassination of caesar?

1:18:07 not everyone likes onions… what about cakes?

15:34 Is there a Nobel prize for attempted chemistry?

Question: The idea of trying to study history in a critical, pragmatic and detached way, as Machiavelli does, seems to rhyme a bit with Thucydides. Did Machiavelli's generation have Thucydides? Was he studied at all at the time? Do we know if there was a kind of cross pollination there? Or are they two thinkers who happened to converge to a similar idea?

Of course I'm Machiavellian. I wear flowing robes all day long while scheming with a sneaky smirk on my face.
