After 10 years from the original release. Parsec Productions and Blue Isle Studios released an update for the game. It featured a new level, graphical overhaul, and most importantly a deeper look into the backstory of Charles Matheson Sr and the rest of the cast.

UmM, aCtUaLlY... Actually, yeah, it does get elaborated on. It stands for Carl Ross, there's a letter near Kate's bed that reveals his name.

It's a common theory that this level is happening at the same time as the Arrival's first chapter, however that's a misconception. Slender: the Eight Pages, and by extension, Genesis, takes place when Kate was only a child. It's the event where CR talks about how they found her with a broken camera and lots of drawings in her backpack. It can be assumed that Kate has been slowly getting Proxified since then, probably entering something similar to Tim's "Masky" state from Marble Hornets, which the ending of Arrival seems to confirm, with Kate curled up in a corner crying, but then suddenly becoming the Chaser and killing Lauren.

It's possible the events of Charles Matheson Sr. burning himself take place after Slender: the Eight Pages, because CR is now in a better position to help him (aka, he's not a child, nor is he ghost hunting with Kate, so, possibly after the first letter we find in the game?), plus considering Homestead is where CR finds most of his evidence, and the fact that we find that letter after loads of other letters, it's very possible that CR started investigating the homestead after his second trip in the woods with Kate. Also, it's possible that the events of Genesis take place when Kate was only a child, considering that its implied through the notes that Kate and CR have had these hallucinations for a while, and they were probably sent to the same hospital. So the timeline would most likely be:
-Kate and CR go into the woods, they get separated and Kate goes through the events of Genesis
-CR meets Kate, who now has a bunch of drawings in her backpack. They both are very shaken with what happened and are sent to a mental hospital.
-After they are "better," they cut contact until the prelude to the events of the Arrival, where Kate and CR go into the woods a second time, since its implied they actually talked in person before the events of the Arrival, leading to a possible encounter with Slender Man.
-After that, CR stars investigating the Homestead, looks through a bunch of evidence and comes to the same conclusion as Frieda and Charles Sr., they must burn to be saved.
-The events we hear on CR's camera happen, leading Kate's mental health to decline even further and run away while CR burns.
-Kate goes back home and the events of "Escape" happens, she tries running back into the woods, but it's no use. She gets caught and becomes Slender's proxy, which probably leads to the Kullman Mines incidents.
-Lauren arrives, the events of the first few chapters of the Arrival happen, Kate possibly regains consciousness after a few days of being a Proxy, her shriek is probably in horror of what she just did or what she's becoming, rather than getting caught by Slender.
