Michael is a 72 year-old American who has lived and traveled all around the world with his wife. They chose Da Nang, not just because of the low cost of living but because of the community they have with other expats, friendly locals, and the wonderful beaches. In this video, Michael shows us his apartment, talks about cost of living, travel health insurance and the healthcare in Vietnam, as well as logistics of living in Vietnam as a retired American. He and his wife basically sold everything - the house, the car, the toys, etc. to live a life abroad.

I've watched hundreds of Southeast Asia expat videos and this guy's perspective in my opinion is exactly correct. Great interview and thanks for just letting him talk because he crystallized pretty much everything.

I was living / renting with a Vietnamese family in Melbourne, Australia for 5 years. It was an amazing experience -- the wife would cook authentic Vietnamese meals. And the rent was cheap, so cheap I insisted (and got push back) on increasing the rent when I learned that this money was being sent to their family. The most decent, friendly, and hard working people I know. I would certainly go to, and retire and live in Vietnam to live with his family.

Michael's story really hit home — the "get off the beaten path but get ON the path first" line is such solid advice. Love how honest he was about the healthcare experience, the community aspect, and even why Vietnam might not be the forever home for everyone. Selling everything to start fresh at 72 takes real courage. Great episode, Ross & Corey!
