Nice demo (as usual), I just wanted to add/correct a few details
NED did not use that keyboard for the synclavier 2 (the ORK actually, shown on your picture) but on the VPK (bigger keyboard), but according to an engineer friend of mine used to repair both, they're quite different, actually
The T8 has an interesting and nice feature, the release velocity (also found on the Matrix 12, or Gem S2/3), that lets you change the release time depending of the speed you release the notes (and that feature is not available on the VPK)
all the best !!

Dude absolutely knows his audience. 😆

I owned a T8 for approximately 15yrs after purchasing it used in the mid-eighties from Long & McQuades here in Toronto. I recall purchasing the latest firmware chip from Wine Country Sequential and doing data dump/loads from a cassette player! It lived up to all the hype and my understanding is their were only around eight of them in the entire country (back then). The T8 was our main controller, given the amazing keyboard that was simply a delight to play. After recognizing the leaps and bounds the keyboard industry had taken over the years, the decision to finally sell it was promoted by 1. it was still in mint condition and all working, demanding top dollar and 2. The fear of hanging onto something that would eventually become problematic with failing power supplies, leaking capacitors and all the headaches an aging piece of electronics can bring. It is still showcased in our web-site gallery.

In the pile of garbage that YouTube often feels like… it’s still possible  to find gold… this channel is pure gold! I only started watching 4-5 weeks ago and it seems like I watched most of your videos, im almost done :-) but when that day comes… I’ll just start again.
Thank you!

Thank you for a great video, best regards from a middle aged Swedish man with to many old synths according to my wife !

rollin on acid rn, enjoyed that outtro.. wish it never ended.

Dave Smith total legend rip

Alex you aint half hgetting some great vintage synths just lately. Always a great history lesson and its interesting👍

This may be the best I've ever heard a t-8 sound. Excellent work!

Oh, if only I could rekindle the magic of my youth via the keyboards of my heroes. In too many cases I didn't hear these keyboards until my heroes had abandoned their 70s and 80s bands.

That's why I come here to listen to you talk about and play them. Please don't ever stop.

So many octaves 😮😮🔥

I had a very rare opportunity to actually play one of these at a synthesizer convention about 21 years ago.  The Prophet T8 is an absolute BEAST!!!  That is the first time I've ever seen or played an analog polyphonic synthesizer with a weighted polyphonic aftertouch keyboard.  WOW!!!  I had no idea there were only 800 of these made!  That puts this one in the category amongst one of the world's rarest analog polysynths. In fact, I rarely ever hear anyone mention the T8, even online, now that I think about it.

If you can ever get your hands on an RSF PolyKobol, I would be completely blown away!!!  That's probably the rarest analog polysynth ever made.

this synth... i honestly think the sounds on this are one of a kind, I've listened to hundreds of different synths and have spend inordinate years in high tech VST's and that leas you made with the aftertouch was profound. I would kill to sample that and many other sounds i wonder if anyone has anywhere.

please god, grant me a T8, I've been lusting for one for decades

I think I remember seeing Bronski Beat on tv performing at Montreux with a T-8. Back in the day when your synth heroes had 3/4 keyboard stands filled up high with these sort of expensive beasts!

Actually crazy that polyphonic aftertouch got less common later in the history of polysynth. I only got hands on one first with my Hydrasynth and now i won't miss it ever. It's so nice and brings more expression possibilities.

Two of them in the basement.  And they are the smoothest and most beautiful synth.

Ahh..one of my dream synths in my live playing days! My rig around that time (or slightly later?) was a Yamaha KX-88 and TX7 module, Roland D-50 & MKS-20.
Agreed, most still don’t get the benefit of poly aftertouch 43+ years later. I do, that’s why I bought a Montage M8x.
Love your channel!

Always a delight to watch your videos Alex! Thank you for sharing!

Your absolutely right Alex, the T8 is a Rolls Royce of a synth, excellent video.
Thanks!
