Ugh, i hate when ppl talk about "high value" men or women. We're people, not a carton of eggs.

most of the time when i hear people use the term "femcel horror" it has less to do with the movie itself and more to do with the type of person who would enjoy it a little too much

I adore the reflection of the ring light as a halo around Mary, and the way that your own silhouette takes her place. Super artsy, super cool

Your ring light reflecting on the painting behind you and giving her a perfect halo is scratching an itch in my brain I didn't even know I had

The anime movie Perfect Blue is a good example of femcelism. It's more of a psychological thriller, but it hits many of the marks you brought up. Isolation, sexual frustration, identity crisis, psychological torment, violence and bloodshed, just to name some

I feel like pearl can almost fit into this…even that whole trilogy kinda revolves around pearl being frustrated in some way or another.. in fact the repulsion explanation made me think of pearl with the dead pig she had and just the spiraling

May is one of my favorite movies. Growing up autistic, it has always been hard for me to form connections to other people. There is such a deep rooted desire to be loved, paired with an inability to be understood no matter what, because my brain is fundamentally different. It's a very lonely life.

tbh i feel like a lot of the "female experience" that is talked about, both irl and in movies, leaves out the weird girls, the ugly girls, the queer girls, the girls who were never girls to begin with, and a lot of other marginalized girls. i like that some of these do kinda show some of those experiences that the girls who don't fit in with the "female experience" will have, because it's not common for them to be talked about. i wish we had more movies about the experiences and the rage of the "ugly" girl who is mentally ill, neurodivergent, not cis or hetero, and who in general just acts weird, it would be cool to see

“how about perfect blue?!” i scream from the stage as they pull out of the theatre

Who the hell is saying horror films can't have political or societal commentary? The first horror films ever made lowkey dealt with the aftermath of World War 1, and the metaphors have only become more explicit since then. Horror is about transgression, and reflecting the current era is a big part of making horror more relatable, so it can be more effective.

I also love Terrifier and Troma and mindless gore, and there's a place for that too.

And my pick for femcel horror more people should watch: Dracula's Daughter, from the Universal Monsters. WAY ahead of its time, using vampirism  as a methaphor for loneliness, isolation, and repressed lesbianism.

Great and insightful video Darby!

as someone with bpd, the idea of someone liking a yandere seems like such a red flag 😭

The insane irony of ROMAN POLANSKY making a movie about a woman being traumatized by something a man did to them is...staggering.

25:13 PREDOMINANTLY MALE AUDIENCE?! WHERE?????

Roman Polanski of all people making Repulsion is crazy lmaooooo

You said you have a predominantly male audience but the girlies found you with this one!! xx
I was hoping you were going to say May was the best femcel horror film and I cheered when you did

Single White Female is based heavily on the 1977 film 3 women starring the one and only Shelley Duvall, i think you would love it!

FUCK YES!  Femcel horror is such a fascinating subgenre. Male rage is seen in slasher flicks and everyone thinks of Freddy, Jason, Michael, etc but holy fuck, female rage is so visceral and like bones grinding together until the marrow becomes a wet paste and leaks out. The psychology of American culture in how we expect women to be, think, feel can be so conservative and what happens when a woman subverts the expected is frightening for so many but, honestly,  beautiful.

Re: wuornos mentally sound and mentally sound legally are 2 different things
To get off on insanity you have to be so insane you dont understand what youre doing is wrong
Wuornos covered up her crimes, showing she knew she did something she shouldnt have and was thus found sane to stand trial
This is standard, as otherwise almost all serial killers wouldnt be able to be prosecuted

as a male viewer, i love femcel horror, focusing on female perspectives is underdone and i do get that “good for her” feeling watching movies like audition :)

I am a simple man; someone brings up Excision in a horror essay and I hit that subscribe button with the force of a meteor.
