On the 2nd, the Rakugo Association held a press conference for the promotion performance of Shunputei Ichika, who will be promoted to the highest rank of rakugo performer this fall.

According to Chairman Hayashiya Shōzō, who was also present, the association had planned to postpone any promotions this fall, but Shunputei Ichinosuke, well-known from shows like "Shōten," suggested, "Could we please promote Ichika to the highest rank on his own?"

Ichika has been making a name for himself, including winning the Grand Prize at the 2025 NHK Newcomer Rakugo Awards. The aim was to make the second-rank performers feel that "hard work is rewarded" and "they will be properly recognized" by placing him in a position befitting his achievements.

Chairman Shōzō, who has emphasized a policy of listening to others' opinions, said that there is an atmosphere within the association that suggests they are "sending Ichika out into the world."

Ichika himself humbly stated, "I believe that my masters have recognized my passion and potential, and that's why I'm here today."
