It's a story of stupidity. Daniel is responsible as captain. No life vests, radio, flairs, horn, water, food, and an unseaworthy boat, with one person that can't swim.

This is why we should all respect each other. Imagine yelling at this lady because she zones out at a light and doesn't go and you flip out on her. You never know what is going through someone's head or what kind of day they have had, you don't know what they may have gone through in life. They could have just lost a loved one, a job or pet who knows.

Total incompetence from the man who organised this trip, no weather checks, no safety equipment. Totally avoidable

HOW she managed to swim for HOURS without giving in to exhaustion is astounding!!! 😮

Randy Cohen was Christy's boyfriend and he went back for her and swam with her body for about 15-20 mins until Dan felt for her pulse and said to Randy that he had to let her go, otherwise he would drown. An horryifying and appallingly sad story, helpless to save the person you love and risking everything to be attacked yourself. Christy was only 19 years old.

This is quite literally my worst nightmare

I seriously doubt my ability to keep my head together as she did. Nothing but respect for this lady. WOW!

Her not splashing or frantically trying to get away likely saved her life. She was not behaving like prey, she was slow and made few disturbances in the water. Very smart. They say it’s a good idea to face the shark and look in its eyes without trying to escape it, but that is a lot to ask 😳

Wow. I like how she said she “ put herself in the mindset of a fish- I’m supposed to be here so too.” I completely see how that would help you. I personally don’t know what id do. I wouldn’t have been able to swim. Debilitating fear of deep dark water I can’t see into.

I find it interesting that the worst swimmer is the one attacked. Predators are amazing at singling out the most vulnerable. Very sorry to hear this poor girl was taken. Not being a good swimmer probably meant she was thrashing and drawing more attention to herself than anyone else was. So sad.

The fact that she went on to have a career working on boats is so badass.

In reality she saved the 2 men by making it to shore, not only is she brave but she's a hero as well. Rip Christy 🕊

The fact that 3 out of 4 of you all survived is amazing. What a harrowing tale.

Being an avid saltwater fisherman, and seeing 16ft Great white in person, this is the only thing I fear.

People have no clue as to the Size, Stealthiness and power these creatures have, until you see one up close.

8:10 she describes changing her angle of approach to the beach, since the rip was pushing her out to sea. By swimming sidestroke parallel alongside the beach she swam through the rip and out the other side. That saved her, as then you can let the surface waves carry you to shore, once youre out of the rip.

As a non swimmer, I feel so much empathy for the girl left so far behind from her friends as she could swim and was floating/trying to move for survival. 😢 She must have so felt alone when the sharks came for her. 😢😢

The mental strength this woman possessed at a young age is remarkable.

So many inspirational lessons from this lady.

Can you IMAGINE being bumped by a shark after seeing your friend get eaten alive and having no other choice but to keep swimming? Also knowing at any moment that thing could come back and bite you in half? Oh holy Mother of God that would freak me out beyond words. She is one brave woman.

We had a similar situation, diving in Egypt, our dive leader swam in the wrong direction, when we surfaced about 45 minutes later,no shore no boat, we eventually got found about 3 hours later we had drifted a long way, the boat had not checked us and thought we had got on another boat. The sun burn from the reflection and the dehydration was immense. Very lucky to be found. We got stuck on a reef otherwise we would have carried on drifting. Very sad to hear about the loss of her friend, a miracle that any of them survived
