What do flight attendants look for when you board a plane? In this video, I'll tell you *the 7 things the cabin crew observes at four different points during the flight: when boarding, when you take your seat, during the flight, and during an evacuation. We'll talk about **carry-on luggage**, the **emergency exit row**, a **open window**, the **seatbelt**, **alcohol on the plane**, and **changing seats* at the gate. Practical information to help you travel with greater peace of mind.

CABIN CREW, NOT JUST "FLIGHT ATTENDANTS"
They are trained professionals and they're not just there to serve coffee. What I'm about to tell you comes from my experience (40 flights and more than 210 hours on airplanes in the last year), from visiting the training centers of *Emirates* and **Aerolíneas Argentinas**, and from talking to many people in the industry. My conclusion: nothing happens by chance on an airplane.

PHASE 1: BOARDING THE PLANE
The greeting at the gate is also a *three-second scan**: they'll see if you speak the language, if you're calm, and if you've had a few drinks. If it's too obvious, the captain may decide not to let you fly. On long flights, they'll ask for your **seat number**, so memorize it. Inform them if you have a **fear of flying* or if you work in aviation or **medicine**: there isn't a doctor assigned to every plane.

CARRY-ON LUGGAGE
You're entitled to one carry-on bag and one personal item, which goes under the seat in front of you. If there's no space overhead, the last passengers to board may have to check their luggage. Also, **lifting your bag into the overhead compartment is your responsibility**: the crew isn't obligated to help you.

BOARDING GATE AND SEAT CHANGES
The *gate agents* can help you if you're seated far from your family or in a seat you don't like. Ask politely: dressing well won't get you an upgrade, but factors like the flight being overbooked, traveling alone, and your *frequent flyer status* can help. If someone else is asked to move, it's only fair to offer them a better seat.

PHASE 2: ON YOUR SETTING
The *emergency exit row* has more legroom, but the crew can move you even if you paid for it if you don't meet the criteria: **minimum age**, not traveling with children or people who need assistance, having the strength and mobility to open the door, and **understanding the crew's language**. If they ask if you can help, answer clearly and don't joke around: an airplane must be able to be evacuated in **90 seconds**.
Wear *closed-toe shoes* and, if you're wearing heels, take them off before using the slide.
During takeoff and landing, the *window should be open* so you can see outside and the rescue team can see inside.

PHASE 3: DURING THE FLIGHT
The *seatbelt* is also checked mid-flight: if you use a blanket, put it **over it**. This is especially useful during **turbulence**, which can be severe and unexpected.
The crew keeps track of the *alcohol* you consume, which is why duty-free bottles are sometimes given to you upon disembarking.

PHASE 4: WHAT YOU NEED TO LOOK OUT FOR
Locate the *nearest emergency exit* and count how many rows there are between your seat and that exit. Knowing this will give you peace of mind if there is smoke or confusion.
