149th Street-Grand Concourse in the (2) & (5) Line was originally named Mott Avenue in 1905, but now it was changed to 149th Street-Grand Concourse after the (4) Train platforms was open on June 2 1917

ahh good ol "Writer's bench". The southbound  (2) & (5) platform was used in the 1970s, & 80s as a gathering spot for writers to check out the latest painted trains, trade blackbooks, meet other writers, etc. there's a little plaque acknowledging this. (I'm surprised the TA did)

This station amazes me!

It would be amazing to see the switch that gets thrown over 200 times a day, actually fail.

The Roscoe Street Station in Max Payne 1 was somewhat based on this station. It served the 2, 4 and 5 lines. Max himself travels in on the 5 line before he has to foil a bank robbery.

Ahhh man, you just took me back to 1988 to 1992.   I remember waiting on that UPTOWN 2 train to GUN HILL RD. every morning.  you had to make that 7:30A.M. train if you was to get to EVANDER CHILDS HIGH SCHOOL on time.  thanks for this footage......  (Grew up on 161, so had to take the 4 train downtown 1 stop as well)......

Familiarizing myself wirh the Bronx.  Headed there for a game & to see relatives.  Love your knowledge about the train system.  Was a NYC commuter for a long time.  Some of this is familiar & brings me back to my youth.  Great channel.  Did subscribe! 👍

0:00 did you know that was a R110 Accoument?

For many years, one of the original "Mott Avenue" wall signs was left unchanged on the southbound platform...until a modern sign was installed

The Bronx ?? Nice I use to live on Radcliff ave. And near the Phelam parkway...my late Great and grandfather's had a business in Parkchester years ago or actually decades back. It was a Beer and soda distributorship in the Bronx...even though I don't physically live back there in the city ?? The city still lives very much in my heart mind and memories. Thank you dj Hammers for this incredible trip.

I remember the 2 train coming and going to Manhattan. It would go so fast when I was a little kid and I would be so ecstatic

Ahhh the days where i would visit grandma get off at 149th to ride the 2 to jackaon avenue

Fun fact: The IRT WPR station when it opened was referred to as Mott Avenue as the Concourse at street level had that name from 149 St to 138 St.

They really gotta so something about those service change/delay announcements getting interrupted by itself. It's really annoying.

DJ Hammers, thank you IMMENSELY for explaining what a top + bottom signal signify!  You read our thoughts!

I was here in 8:37 getting of the 4 to take the two wish I was able to see you!

Thanks. I took took the 2 or 5 to Morris Park and 180th street through the '70's. Worked for Metro North Railroad upstairs at the Concourse and 149th st. Great memories.

Fascinating subway junction!!!  I've been through this station many times without delay or problem.😀😀

I'm a huge fan of the tours..So detailed and precise. I beg of you to make more!

Worked in this station many times..

when i was in new york, the 6 train at nights would take forever, like 15min or more, and of course came in packed.
