The sofa where the guests who’d already been interviewed was not that tiny. And it wasn’t that close to
Johnny’s desk.
The chair with guest being interviewed was more toward and matched the sofa. But that guest was kept forward and front so that they’d be the center of the camera frame. Or that they and Johnny would be in the same frame.
The guests who were waiting to be interviewed were always kept backstage. Not on the sofa. Not all of the scheduled guests got on the air. That’s because of an interview was going really well with the audience, Johnny would keep it going. So he never had the guests not interviewed on the sofa.
The first guest always moved off the chair and moved to the first place on the sofa next to the chair. Regardless of who the first guest or second guest was. This was the way Johnny wanted it so that the guest being interviewed would be right next to Johnny’s desk. That way when the camera pulled back it would capture the guest being interviewed and Johnny.
Yes. Steve McQueen was known to be insecure about keeping his star status and treatment. He didn’t work well with other stars who would sometimes be hired to work with McQueen on the same movie. Again, because of his own insecurities. He often tried to sabotage their lines and/or scenes.
He was known, by those who worked with him on movies, to be a “very difficult” person to work with.
But this picture does not remotely begin to show a scene from the Johnny Carson Show.
