Dulles Airport is named for Allan’s brother, John. A staunch anti-communist and Secretary of State under Ike.

4:00 I'll always remember one very astute quote from the first Captain America movie of all places.

The scientist who created Cap's super serum was a German defector, and Steve Rogers seemed a little confused by that, and the scientist said "People forget that the first country the Nazis invaded was their own."

The Armchair Historian also did another multi-scenario "What If" on Operation Unthinkable.

Back in the 80s I had a professor in Canada who had been a member of the White Rose

I'm so glad that you mentioned the fact that there are many resistance movements that don't get talked about enough. I literally just mentioned that in conversation with a friend on a completely unrelated topic. I was merely using them as an example in a point I was making.

Here before demonetization 😂

Seriously something should change to allow for more historic content about ww2

I highly recommend the 2016 film Anthropoid, with Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan, it's a brilliant retelling of the build up to, and immediate aftermath of Heydrich's assassination

Whilst you're in Prague you need to cover the Kinder Transport.

Just a thought VTH, but check out Just A Greek Historian ; he is an alternate history youtuber with only like 5k subs but is very good and makes nice content from what if the warsaw uprising succeeded to what if the great scisim between the chrisitan churches didnt happen.

Prague in the SPRING? A little on the nose, Mr. Historian. ^_^

21:10 Even in our timeline it took a decent while for Nazism to be completely stamped out despite an objective and total crushing defeat of the Nazi regime. Unless its obvious that the new regime fought the war more effectively then the old I could see Neo Naziism rising far faster in germany. The whole we didnt lose we just failed to win

The biggest issue with Scenario 3 is that OSS knew about concentration camps and the death camp system long before the D-day invasion all the way back prior to the planning of Operation Torch, ironically, around the time that the Colonel Staffenberg's major change of heart and the collapse of his trust in the Fuhrer took place. The biggest roadblock to allied trust would almost certainly be if the Germans were not completely honest with the allies and didn't come completely open-palmed on their knees for forgiveness about the death camps. The other major issue, Poland itself wasn't just an occupation. The Germans weren't idlily sitting in Poland as an occupation force like that been in France (mostly the SS did do terror campaigns but not to the same extent) and in Poland they had absolutely been eliminating ethnic Poles. There is honestly no way in which the Poles in exile would sit aside and let the new German government simply apologize. Especially because the Polish immigrant population in the US was enormous in this time, and one of the biggest upsets for the US early into WW2 was shortly after the surrender of Polish forces, where a father and a son who were US citizens and Polish immigrants, just happened to be visiting Poland at the time of the invasion and were gunned down along with 100 other Poles by occupational SS forces for just being Polish. The reason the Nirenberg trials happened wasn't just for justice, it was supposed to be proof that the old German leadership would be completely eliminated. This revolt of the high command, would have to come with that stipulation, in fact, I believe that they would need to submit with a full independent investigation if they were to make amends.

9:55 the only other one that could have done so, in my opinion, would have been Goebles. He had essentially become the face of the government by then as he was talking to the people significantly more often than Hitler. The only problem there obviously is that Goebles would have had the people, while Himler essentially had the guns

I actually think his second scenario shined a light on how Operation Valkyrie could've ultimately been for naught, especially if Germany continues the war into 1945. National Socialism in Germany had to be beaten into the ground, its grand crimes laid bare for the world to see and its people forced to reckon with what that party had put them through. Even with that happening in our timeline, it wasn't until the next generation of Germans started coming of age in the '60s and '70s that they started asking hard questions about their past and a national effort was made to remember the crimes of the Holocaust. In the Valkyrie succeeds/Beck takes over and continues the war timeline, the National Socialists don't take the L.  In late-July 1944, the worst months of the war for the average German were ahead, and they would be experienced under the Beck government. One thing I got to thinking when TAH mentioned a more competent German defense holding the Allies off on both front for several months, my question was "How many months?" "Germany First" only gave way when Germany surrendered. Prolonging the war into early-August would mean two German cities were going to have a SUPER bad day...and those horrors would be happening under the Beck government. By design, the Beck government was supposed to look like the pre-NS Germany government..the exact same government the National Socialists had told the people to blame for their country's humiliation in WWI, who eventually decapitated the NS party and now has lost a second world war. Information will still eventually be disseminated about the destructive nature of the National Socialists and their leaders along with the realities of the Holocaust and there will still be many trials, but with many of those featured in the Nuremberg Trials already long-dead by the end of the war in this scenario, it probably doesn't deliver the initial shock that it did in our timeline. The De-N-ification process probably isn't as intense as in our timeline.

And as you know, politics can be a funny thing. It doesn't matter how much your predecessors screw up...if the results of their actions land on your doorstep, you're the one that gets the blame. We've seen it throughout history. Hoover didn't set up the financial conditions that would lead to the Stock Market Crash and the Great Depression, but boy did he get the blame for it (his tire spinning response to the crisis didn't help). Stagnation in the USSR accelerated under Brezhnev and the war in Afghanistan started under him too, with both continuing under Andropov and Chernenko. Gorbachev inherited these issues, and it didn't help that his reforms laid them and then some bare to the Russian people along with the withdrawal from Afghanistan. And when the end result was the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was pinned on him, even if it was an empire running on borrowed time anyway, and he's reviled by many Russians today. The Beck government would probably receive the same treatment. If occupation played out the same way, the German far-right would still be around, telling people, "We told you so!" Maybe quietly at first, gaining in volume as time goes along and when a crisis comes in West Germany, I'd say they could've easily found their way into power again by the '70s.

I love this guy's channel

Let's hope that Youtube doesn't demonetize this

I KNEW IT! I saw a bit of an episode and thought "Hey Tay guy looks familiar "

Huge fan of alternative history. I think the 3rd scenario was very interesting.

Operation unthinkable was a really funny name. They didn't go through with it......
